January/2010
Greetings!

The beginning of the New Year is traditionally a time for setting goals and trying out new things for the coming 12 months. At Fine Print, we are trying a new twist on our  monthly specials.

Starting this month, we will be running a new special every two weeks. Look for our emails telling you about the great deals, which will change on the 1st and 16th of every month.

Our first special runs now through January 15 - a generous 20% off the printing of any new images! See the article below for details.

One of our goals for this year is to try even harder to bring you personalized service in the sometimes impersonal world of the internet. Starting with President and founder, Mark Lukes, each month we will introduce you to a member of the Fine Print Staff.

In addition, we'd like to feature YOU in our twice monthly e-letters. If you'd like me to interview you for a feature in our newsletter, please contact me - either by phone (800.777.1141) or email.

"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential."  - Ellen Goodman

Nature Photography Summit
Mark Jansen February 16 through February 21, 2010 The 16th Annual North American Nature Photographers Association Summit in Reno will be one of the most unique Summits NANPA has ever produced. It's not just that they changed the name of the event to Nature Photography Summit to better reflect their offerings, but also that they have decided to add more value and networking opportunities to the revamped schedule.

"The Big Picture" by Greg Mayse
Greg MayseThe debate rages on... Right versus Left, Greenies versus Corporations, Tree-huggers versus Profiteers. Which data - or adjusted data - are we to believe? One thing is for certain - Earth needs our help.

I have heard my share of passionate discussions, both in the national media and in the workplace. I really do not care where each person reading this chooses to stand on the subject of Global Warming, Climate Change or whatever you choose to call it.

As a photographer, I choose to look at the BIG picture on most things in life, and the question raised by looking at the Big picture is simple - Are we doing things to improve our environment and to protect the creatures who share our little rock that rotates around the sun?

Meet the Staff:
Mark Lukes Mark Lukes,
President of Fine Print Imaging

Fine Print grew out of a desire to find someone who understood the unique needs of nature photographers. As Fine Print founder Mark J. Lukes puts it, "I didn't care about flesh tones or commercial images. I cared about how to make my nature photos look in print like they did when I photographed them in nature."

Unable to find a printer who thought as he did, Mark decided to create Fine Print. And maintaining that commitment to produce prints that reflect the photographer's and artist's vision has been Fine Print's goal ever since.

Mark started as an English, speech, journalism and theater high school teacher in Iowa, and later taught in Colorado. Exploring nature was always a passion for Mark. "Moving from Iowa to Colorado was like putting a kid in a candy shop! I spent as much time as I could in the mountains, and my camera was always by my side. The photo opportunities in Colorado seemed endless!" This passion for photography made Mark's transition to photo lab owner a natural fit.
