Greetings!

October is my favorite month (and not just because it is my birthday month!). I love the cool, crisp days, the bright blue skies, the sunlight dancing off the leaves of yellow, orange and red! Nature paints a perfect palette, and we artist types try to capture the beauty with our paintbrushes and cameras. Often our efforts are rewarded with gorgeous interpretations of Nature's finest work.

Sometimes we artists think we're the only ones who notice the beauty around us. But that isn't true: hikers, hunters, bicyclists, joggers - and even those whose only foray into nature is the walk from the car to the door of their windowless office - they all notice the beauty, and perhaps long to have a gorgeous print to hang on their wall and remind them of the riot of colors Nature has splashed across the landscape.

So I've just declared October to be National Share the Beauty month - and our October special is designed to help you do just that!

Also, be sure to check out the article that tells you how to sign up for a chance to win $250 in printing credit!

Fall images are hot...and so is this special offer!
© Mary Hills

Did you know that more people buy Autumn images in the Fall than at any other time of the year? Makes sense, doesn't it - it's what they are experiencing right now - or are reminiscing about if they live in an area of the country that doesn't get great Fall colors.

Now is the time to send an email blast or postcard mailing to your collectors, friends, family and acquaintances showcasing the great new shots you got last weekend. Post them on your Facebook fan page! (What's that? Click here.). Maybe you could even have a sale on Fall images. Hey, that's a good idea!

To help you with your sale, how about if we give you a buy one, get one free deal on your new images? Whether you've got digital files, original artwork or transparencies, have we got a deal for you!

The American Society of Picture Professionals - ASPP announced the Jane Kinne Picture Professional of the Year for 2009 is Danita Delimont.

Danita has been involved in the picture business for many years...and as a very active participant. Her career in photography started when she met Wolfgang Kaehler on the Amazon River, where they both worked on an adventure cruise ship, the World Discover. Their business relationship lasted for a very fruitful 18 years, during which time she entered the world of selling stock photography, bringing her world knowledge and business acumen into full force. Wanting to move on, she established her own stock photography business, Danita Delimont Stock Photography, and has seen it grow into a thriving "boutique" agency which specializes in travel destination images throughout the world.

Danita says, "I am truly touched by this honor and so appreciate the acknowledgement from so many friends and colleagues! We're all in the together, however and it is this spirit of cooperation on all levels that makes our industry so successful. "

The Tar Sands Pipeline

A commentary by Canadian conservationist Garth Lenz
© Garth Lenz

In case you missed it, this August 21st, the U.S. State Department approved a multibillion-dollar pipeline to bring the world's dirtiest, most carbon intensive crude oil to refineries in the United States. The Presidential Permit to Enbridge Energy is for the Alberta Clipper - a 1,000-mile/1,607-kilometer crude oil pipeline that will run between Hardisty, Alberta, and Superior, Wisconsin, bringing crude oil from the Alberta Tar Sands to the U.S. for further refining. There are a number of reasons why I think Americans should be concerned about this but first of all perhaps a little background information might be helpful.

Dexter's Monthly Wag

Tips from Dexter, the Fine Print Labradoodle.
Dexter

Tip #1: Too many paintings or prints stacked up in your studio? Host a holiday open studio and invite friends, neighbors, co-workers and collectors. You can email invitations - or, better yet, create a postcard featuring one or more of your images and mail them out about two weeks before your open studio. Want more info? Request our Ten Tips for Hosting a Successful Open Studio.

Tip #2: Just starting out and wondering how to price your prints? For wholesale (sales where you are not paying a commission) you can double or triple your cost (if you have them mounted, matted and bagged, be sure to add in those costs with the print cost.) If you are selling through a venue that takes a commission, then charge four times your cost. If you are framing the print, then you have to add in the cost of the frame, and at least double it to make sure you don't lose money. Want more info? Request Five Easy Steps to Pricing Your Prints.

You create. We print. It's the perfect partnership.
