I apologize for not writing sooner, but we are all alive and well in sunny Florida (except we've had a lot of heavy rain recently). I arrived safely on June 25th after a "fond farewell" from friends in London. Angie and I were happy to be reunited and spent a couple of days at the beach showing off my very white legs, as you can see above. We also ate lots of fresh seafood and drank tall glasses of iced-tea while we watched the sunset over the crashing waves as the palm trees swayed in the breeze and the seagulls flew overhead... uh, you get the picture. ;-)
Anyway, I'm slowly adjusting to the scorching heat and oppressive humidity of the Florida summer, learning to drive again while wearing flip-flops, and saying things like "y'all" and "howdy". Honestly, I'd forgotten how friendly Americans are and I still get surprised every time I walk into a store and the clerk shouts "welcome to Wal-Mart" or whatever.
Yes, it's good to be back home in the USA but we are sad to miss our friends in London and to not be there during the Olympic Games was a disappointment. It was bitter-sweet to see all the sights of London on TV between the sports matches and other competitions. The opening/closing ceremonies were spectacular and a bit strange, no surprises there, but I especially enjoyed how the American news/sports commentators tried to sound sophisticated while explaining all things British and mispronouncing the names of cities in the UK. (Congratulations to the US athletes and Team GB for all their medals won.)
Back in Florida, it's also been good to spend time with the extended family we haven't seen in awhile and spend each Sunday evening at my dad's house playing cards and talking about old times. He's doing very well considering how ill he was back in January.
On Sundays and Wednesdays we go to church at St. Andrew Baptist where the kids really like the youth group. Angie and I have been singing in the choir and got to sing a trio with Zoey in one of the evening services. Ashley has been on a mission trip with the college group and Zoey went to youth camp. Along with Zach we've all been volunteering a couple days per week in their Benevolent Center. They've been sorting bags of donated clothes and I've been counseling/screening and sharing the Gospel with people in crisis.
