Holiday Bible Club "Just like old times" we hosted a Holiday Bible Club this week at Upper Holloway Baptist Church. I say "old times" because Angie and I have done it twice before as visitors on short-term mission trips -- this time as residents!
But once again we couldn't have done it without the assistance of First Baptist Church of Clermont. We give thanks to the Lord for their donation of curriculum and money to buy supplies. We also couldn't have done it without Ashley, Zachary, Zoey and some of their friends. They were real troopers! Local church members, Phil and Jean Cowen, also played important roles with registration, security, and refreshments.
The "Crocodile Dock" theme worked great for us and although our numbers were small, we believe we made a big impact on several families in the local community. We even had one new mom and child show up Sunday morning! We're also making big plans for next summer when we're hoping to have one or two volunteer teams come from the States to help us reach out to more kids. |
2nd Night in Camden Town Our second night as Street Pastors in Camden Town was much like the first though it seemed more crowded. We also disposed of a lot more empty bottles left laying around -- over 50 this time. You see, each bottle is a potential weapon should a fight break out.
Speaking of weapons, as of the middle of July the two Word4Weapons knife collection bins in our borough contained a total of 71 knives. There is a short-range plan to place two more bins in our borough and a long-range goal to place a minimum of two bins in each borough by 2011. (Below is a photo of the inside of one of the bins.)
Our next night on "patrol" will be this Friday, August 14th in Islington. Please remember us in prayer as we hit the streets around 11 PM (5 hours ahead of Eastern time).

Prayer Requests Keep praying, God's not finished with us yet. Thanks once again for your faithful support in prayer and finances. The VBS mission offering gift from FBC Clermont was above and beyond. We were honored to even be considered.
- Please pray for Ashley and Zach as they go to youth camp this week. Pray they will have a life-building experience.
- Join us in prayer for follow-up with the new families we met through our Holiday Bible Club.
- Please remember Islington and Camden Street Pastors on "patrol" August 14th.
- Please pray for Pastor Brian on holiday until the 17th of August.
- Please keep praying for our work with the
homeless and hungry and new strategies for September (after August break).
- Please
continue praying for my British-Nigerian doctor friend. He was supposed to get his new flat this week but everyone in the local housing office was out with the swine flu.
- Please keep praying for John suffering from dementia.
- The young lady from our Monday drop-in named Rhianan, hospitalized after a drug overdose, is showing some signs of improvement but still needs prayer.
- Chevonne's funeral was on Friday, having died at age 46 from alcoholism. Please pray for her group of alcoholic friends who are all on the same road to nowhere.
- Please
remember to pray for my friend Alex, still struggling with alcohol, isolation, and related mental health issues.
- Please pray for Gavin looking to move to a safer neighborhood. He struggles with emotional issues and lack of benefits from the government.
Blessed to be a blessing,
