anniversary dinner
For our anniversary dinner in Edinburgh, I had a juicy steak but Angie chose the more traditional steak & ale pie.
Edinburgh Castle
The major attraction in Edinburgh is the Edinburgh Castle sitting atop the volcanic Castle Rock. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC.
Angie at Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is gaurded by the Royal Regiment of Scotland and home to the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
 One O'clock Gun
The One O'clock Gun is fired every day, except Sunday, at Edinburgh Castle at (you guessed it) one o'clock.
Angel Wings
A giant sculpture of angel's wings overlook the N1 Centre in a part of our borough known as "The Angel." It's also the part of our borough most in need of Street Pastors.
Zoey returns to Florida
Zoey was greeted by friends when she arrived at the Orlando airport on June 10th. AJ drove down from Panama City to see Zoey and friends in Clermont.
Twenty-five Years in the Making

Angie and I are pleased to announce that on June 2nd, we celebrated twenty-five years of marriage -- our silver wedding anniversary! And I'm also proud to announce that I pulled off a BIG surprise by planning a trip to Scotland - with Angie - without her finding out in advance. She was totally shocked as you can imagine.

You see, on our twentieth anniversary I took her on a trip to London, so now that we live here I knew that wouldn't work a second time. So I had to do a lot of research without her finding out and I didn't want to go too far away. In the end, Edinburgh seemed the perfect choice and I was right. Whew!!! We really had a great time.

Street Pastors Tread Where Angels Dare

This time it was the girls turn. Around 2:00 AM, Saturday morning, closing time at the Glass Works Pub / Dance Club, a fight broke out among the young ladies standing in the outside smoking area upstairs at the N1 Centre. Arms, and dare I say, "claws," were flying "fast and furious." But the experienced door-staff were quick to separate at least four contenders, two of which were bloodied. It may have been the heel of a shoe or it may have been a beer bottle that gave one young lady a nasty cut over her right eye. She would definitely need stitches. The other had small scrapes and cuts all over her face.

There was blood splattered and hair extensions scattered all over the place. Once again the Islington Street Pastors team intervened with first-aid and a calming presence. I personally spoke with the ambulance dispatcher to be sure they knew exactly where to come. There were at least two other fights between 2:00 and 4:00 AM in the vicinity and at least three young men were arrested.

For those of you praying for Islington Street Pastors, our next night out will be Friday, June 26th, when we have our first walk-about in the neighboring borough of Camden. There will be a commissioning/prayer service at 8:30 PM and then we'll hit the streets of Camden Town between 10:30 and 2:30. Camden Town is a part of North London well-known for its markets, liberal attitude, and associations with popular culture. To see what it's like, watch the videos at www.camdenguide.co.uk.

  • Please remember Islington Street Pastors and our first night in Camden Town on June 26th.
  • Please keep praying for our work with the homeless and hungry in North London. There is much work to be done and we are looking at new strategies for September (after August break).
  • Please continue praying for a young homeless British-Nigerian doctor who can't find work. He came to church with me last Sunday and is making progress getting his housing arrangements sorted.
  • Please remember to pray for my alcoholic friend named Alex. I'm meeting next week with one of his alcohol counselors to talk about a strategy for his future.
On the Streets of Islington
June Street Pastors
I'm very proud of our Street Pastor team. Four of the seven in this photo were out for the first time on June 12th. Please pray for new recruits for the next training session starting in September.
