We had Christmas lunch at church with visitors from our Drop-In and community.
Father Christmas
Father Christmas gave gifts to those on the "Nice List."

Angie in the snow
Angie even got out and played in the snow.
Facebook, Friends, and Family
It's official, we have now caught up with the times. Angie and I both have Facebook pages! (Was that a groan I heard from the teenage crowd?) Well, we're trying to be modern and, yes, we're addicted. We've really enjoyed catching up with old friends from school days and relatives we haven't spoken with in a while and we'd love to hear from you. So if you want to join our friends list look us up. You'll need to open an account if you don't have one. It's free and easy.

Another good way to stay in touch is with Skype. If you haven't heard of it, it's like a free long distance telephone connection over the internet. You just download the free software and talk to other users computer to computer. You'll need a microphone and speakers or mic-headset combo. When you get set up search for friends by entering their email address.

Holiday Hustle
This seems like old news now but we spent Christmas day and the day after Christmas, known as Boxing Day, at the church. We had a Christmas day worship service followed by lunch for the community (see photos). We also played games, watched the broadcast of the Royal Christmas Message given by the Queen, and had a visit from Father Christmas. Boxing Day was spent watching DVDs at the church with people who are left on their own or without family locally.

A Watch Night service ushered in the New Year and then I spent the first week of 2009 in the bed with flu. The rest of the family had it between Christmas and New Year's Eve. It was a bad "bug."

Then before AJ returned to Florida, I recovered from the flu enough to go with the family on a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament arranged by our local Member of Parliament. We saw the House of Lords, the House of Commons, and the Robing Chamber where the Queen puts on her royal robes and crown before addressing Parliament. Of course there are numerous statues and paintings to admire as well.

Also known as the Palace of Westminster, it was the monarch's principal residence in the late Medieval period. During WWII, it was hit fourteen times by German bombs. The worst of these was on 10 May 1941, when the Commons Chamber was destroyed and three people were killed.

The Big Snow
The month of February began with the biggest snowstorm in 18 years. School was cancelled for the day and all London bus routes were suspended. Most of the airports, trains, and even the underground trains were affected too. Basically everyone stayed home if they didn't have to get out. But it was a Monday so that meant we had Drop-In visitors to take care of and to my surprise we had at least 2/3 of our regulars there; about 45 out of 65. Most of our volunteers made it too, unless it was too far for them to walk.

The kids (as you can see to the left) had a good time playing in their first "proper" snow. We've had snow flurries at least three times since we've been living here, but this was the real deal.

Ministry in the City
There continues to be plenty of opportunities for ministry in the mega-city of London. I've recently began working at a second Drop-In Ministry on Tuesdays and Thursdays at an Anglican Church. I see some of the same guys from Mondays but it's mostly a new group of people with the same problems: homeless, jobless, mental illness, or all the above. A few are simply lonely and can't work because of a physical problem. But they are all made in God's image and some of their stories will break your heart. I hope you can come and meet them someday.

Islington Street Pastors continues to make progress and I'm happy to say that the four of us who were in training are now finished. The really great news is we will begin our "patrols" in Islington this month! Everything kicks off on Wednesday, 11 February, with an Islington Police Prayer Breakfast followed by our first patrol on Friday the 13th.

I found a new article about Street Pastors I think will inspire you. It comes from the borough of Haringey which is just north of Islington.

Prayer Requests
Please continue to pray for AJ living with his grandmother in Panama City, Florida. He's attending the local community college and needs a part-time job.

We appreciate your prayers for our work with the teenagers in our community. As with most youth ministries there are ups and downs. Please keep interceding for us as we build relationships and seek direction for this ministry.

The amount of time each week that I'm spending with the less fortunate and homeless of the community has now tripled. It can often be draining and depressing. You've been praying for a couple of months for a homeless Filipino lady and an alcoholic man that needs treatment. I've seen them both recently and they were both hospitalised over the Holidays. They still need prayer. The homeless man named "Paul" was hospitalsed also and seems to be doing better but is still homeless.

Islington Street Pastors need your prayers more than ever as we prepare to launch in a few days. The names of our current team members are Roberto, Carol, Beverly, and Fran. I'm their coordinator. We have several registered for the March training and need a few more.

Our community choir and potential work with international students is on hold for right now as I try to concentrate on the ministries listed above.

Please pray for Pastor Brian and his mother and sister as Brian's father passed away recently.

Please continue praying that God will meet all our financial needs. There's no other word but "amazing" to describe how we've made it this far. There are still times we look out the window or walk down the street and ask ourselves "are we really here?" It has been an amazing journey and 2009 looks very exciting.

So if you as an individual, a church, or an association of churches feel led to partner with us, please send gifts to the First Baptist Church of Clermont, designated to the Ecker family. The church address is 498 W. Montrose Street, Clermont, FL, 34711. For more information you can reply to this email or call us in London at 011-44-207-281-0508 (remember we are five hours ahead of EST). We're also on Facebook and Skype. Our mailing address is at the bottom.

God bless you all!

ON THE TOWN: We did get out to see a few sights while AJ was with us, weather permitting. Though we had some dry and sunny spells it was mostly cold and wet, typical London weather. Unfortunately, as you can see below they managed to suck me into their Beatle-mania.
