Greetings!
Part 2 of my September Newsletter is coming early thanks to Claudine, one of my clients, who mentioned on our last consultation that I really should be writing a weekly newsletter instead of a monthly newsletter. Hey, I am always up for a challenge, so I figured, I would try to go for 2, and we will see how that works out. So, thanks Claudine for inspiring me to push the envelope.
So where were we? Ah yes, how to be your own coach. Part of what makes me such a great coach, (well, we will have to ask my clients to be sure on this one) is that I am a great client. Being a great client, helps you to know what you like and what you would like improved, then when you get to the position yourself, you know what to do and what not to do as the coach. So, this month we are going to be talking about how to coach yourself.

HOW TO BE YOUR OWN COACH
Let's face it, times are a bit of a challenge. We are all looking for ways to make cutbacks without sacrificing results when it comes to competing and to a successful life as well. As an active competitor myself, I know the expenses involved, and I know sometimes a sacrifice is in order. When for you, that sacrifice unfortunately has to be a coach, you can still make do and have a great season, by coaching yourself. But be warned, you are going to actually have to put yourself to WORK! no slacking off now! Otherwise, you will have to suck it up and split the bill. (did I just say suck it up?, so not like me)
So what are the qualities of a good coach and how can you actually do the job yourself?
You are going to have to have a strong backbone, because everyone and their brothers are going to try to "help" you out, and you can get caught off guard and feel confused, since opinions are... well, you know what opinions are like. So be prepared to stand your ground whatever program you lay out, and stay the course.
1. A good coach has a solid nutritional philosophy. 2. A good coach will check your photos or see you in person once a week to see how things are progressing. 3. A good coach will document your weight each week and body fat about every 3 weeks. 4. A good coach will honestly critique your physique and let you know the areas you need to be working on. 5. A good coach will be able to gauge about how you are going to look before your show, based on your progress each week. 6. A good coach will help you with suit selection, color, tanning, hair and makeup. 7. A good coach is your motivator, giving you pep talks when you need them. 8. A good coach will help you with posing, whether in person, by youtube, or through your photos. 9. A good coach will change up your cardio and food based on your current progress, results and energy level. 10. A good coach will make sure you are having fun. Everyone who knows me well, knows my motto: If I am not having fun, I am not competing!
OK, so know that you know the job of a coach, you can do it yourself, and delegate, what you are not sure how to do. You will need to take pictures each week, have a game plan both with your nutrition, as well as your cardio. You will need to monitor it on a weekly basis, make sure you stay motivated, however you do that, and get the fine details taken care of like tanning, hair and makeup. You can do it. I now you can. Trust your intuition and relax and have fun, don't take it so seriously. Find ways everyday to enjoy the process. Play this game to win, on your own terms, define them, then go for it. You will be glad you decided to participate, rather than sit on the side lines watching everyone else play. So what are you waiting for? Get in the game! |

Special thanks to Claudine for inspiring me to write a second newsletter this month. Now it won't be so long until I write again.
