Greetings!
This month's newsletter theme is special thanks to Pam, from Boston. Pam purchased my E-book Releasing The Diet Drama, and she absolutely loved it. Pam also had some great feedback for me about the book, one thing being to create a check list for how to select a good coach. I thought this was a great idea but a possible conflict of interest, she said she understood but also that the information really should be put out there. So I am going to tell you my check list that I use to select my coaching team. The second topic is for those of you who have or plan on purchasing my E-book, I have a little bit of a clarification for you, again thanks to Pam. "It has been my hope with the book (Releasing The Diet Drama) for people to self coach. That really is the point of all the worksheets in the appendix. For each person to find a system that works. There is no one right way to diet for a show and there is no expected amount of weight loss. You cannot do a program and then expect something to happen and not be prepared to change your course a little. If things were that simple, what would be the purpose of the experience of the diet? If we knew that if we did x, y, and z that we would be ready for competition, what would be the fun in that? And wouldn't everyone be ready every time?" So this of course leads me to the next topic which is how exactly do you be your own coach? that will be addressed in next month's newsletter and is of course the purpose for the book Releasing The Diet Drama. So stay tuned for part 2 next month. |

HOW TO SELECT A COACH THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU
This is of course a matter of opinion. This is the process I would use to select a coach. It is also the process I use to see if I am able to coach someone. Not everyone is right for me, and not everyone can coach me, and all it takes is one phone call or visit in person to find out.
Have an initial consultation with your potential coach. Tell them your goals and let them tell you what the vision is that they see for you. This is your initial time to get a good read on if there is a proper fit. You will notice a few things in the conversation to your benefit if there is a good match. Here are some things to look for.
1. A natural flow and ease with the conversation 2. A life philosophy that is quite similar to yours 3. A philosophy of nutrition that is based on scientific principles, and a willingness to share those with you. 4. A genuine interest in your specific goals. 5. A willingness to challenge you with stimulating questions that inspire you. 6. A motivating and inspirational attitude. (high energy) 7. Quick response time. (to initial E-mail and set up of consultation) 8. How many clients do they work with at a time? 9. What is the response time to your questions during the week? What is the system for responding to questions about your program? 10. Are questions about your program a possibility? 11. Do they create a custom program for you specifically? What is their method for doing so? 12. A strong interest in not only "dropping weight" but on feeling great and actually being healthy. 13. Answers to your questions make sense to you. They don't leave you with more questions. 14. Non-confrontational. They should not be arrogant or seemingly upset when you pose questions about anything. 15. What exactly does the program entail and how specifically does it work? You should know when you are done with the conversation, what exatly is included in the program and how specifically it works.
And the number one deciding factor of selecting a coach is very simply this, when you get off the phone with them, or from seeing them in person do you feel uplifted? My coach after I go for a visit, I feel great, fantastic and well cared for. This is the feeling you should have. Not that you are taking up their time, and feeling apologetic because you know they are busy. It is their job to serve you and you should get a good feel for that right away. You should walk away from the meeting with hope and inspiration for your exciting goals and future accomplishments. |
