Creating An Olympic Mindset
Fortunately for me, creating a winning mind set is my specialty. However, I do know when it is time to relax, refresh and unwind and when it is time to light the fire and get those fitness goals going. My newsletter this month is going to show you how to step up to the plate, take control and take action!
Something inside is unsettling. That is how it always begins. You are happy... but, there could be more. And so, the searching begins. You look around and wonder, is it your job, do you need a new pair of shoes, do you need that chocolate cake... or, do you need to create some goals in your life so compelling, that at this time, you have no idea how you will ever achieve them? Yeah, that last one you say.. I know the feeling.
So, here is how we go about generating those feelings inside that are so rich and powerful, so compelling, so exciting, that if you had me as your coach and I told you to wake up at 3am to do something, you would say, hey, no problem.
You are going to look at your goals from a little different perspective than you are used to. The technique we are going to use, comes from Walt Disney, actually. The story goes, Walt Disney had "maybe still does" a room that was called the "Dreamer" room. People could walk in the room and write all over the walls, they could write whatever they wanted and there was to be no criticizing. No critical thinking allowed in this room.
So, are you ready to create a compelling fitness future for yourself? You will need 3 sheets of paper and on them, I want you to write, really big across the whole sheet on each paper as follows.
Sheet 1: DREAMER
Sheet 2: REALIST
Sheet 3: CRITIC
Now take these sheets and put them down on the floor and spread them out a bit. You are first going to go into dreamer mode. Most likely you are already very good at the other 2. So let's step into that sheet on the floor in "Dreamer" I want you to simultaneously have another sheet of paper and as you are thinking in your mind, begin to write out all the things that you want. Make specifics about them, how you want to look, how you want to feel, how much you want to way, what you want your abs to look like, what goals you will be able to achieve when you have this. In this "dreamer" space, nothing comes in but your dreams and visions. Create compelling goals that are for you and you alone. If they don't feel good, scratch them off and write new ones. There is no right answer, only what makes you feel good. When you start to notice yourself being a critic or a realist about it, just set those thoughts aside, put them in the realist or critic pile, write it out on a separate sheet, and put it on the floor in that pile and tend to that later. Now not only are you going to write out what you want, next you are going to include why you want it, and why you believe you will have it. Remember NO realist or critic, only dreamer.
Play with this as long as it feels good, until the creative well runs out. Then take your sheet of paper and put it up on the fridge. Now take the sheets of paer that say realist and critic, and throw them in the trash. Yes, I want you to throw them in the trash. Whenever you find yourself thinking critically or realistically about your goals, throw those thoughts in the trash.
Now you are wondering how am I going to get this goal accomplished if I don't map out a plan or get realistic or be critical of it? All you have to do is keep focused on what you want and why you want it, and you will naturally and easily bring in to your life the tools and resources necessary to achieve your goals. It is so much easier than we like to make it.
So, try it. Get to dreaming. Send me an email, and let me know what you come up with. I am curious to learn of your dreams and goals and visions.
