Greetings!
This month is all about post contest support! Since many of you have already competed this year, I am getting a lot of emails about what's next, how to balance out, finding new goals and how NOT to get fat! So, for those of you post competition this one is for you. |

POST COMPETITION SUPPORT
So, your show is over, you have stopped emailing your fellow competitors and have lost all contact with your coach, and put on 5 or 10 pounds just in the last week alone. You started wearing baggy t's to the gym and everyone and their mother is asking you "how did you do at your show?" so you have stopped going to the gym too. You can't seem to get the pile of doritos out of your lap and you wonder to yourself "what is wrong with me?" For starters let me just tell you, there is nothing wrong with you and it is perfectly normal to feel the way that you do. Let me just start by saying give yourself a break. You don't have to stand on stage in a bikini in a week or 2 weeks or 12 weeks, and the fact of the matter is, motivation alone will slow you down. You just can't have the fire that you have before a show when the show is over. That does not mean you can't stay in shape though.
Here are a few tips to staying in shape once the show is over.
1. Allow yourself one cheat meal for dinner the night of the show and one cheat meal the next day for breakfast and that is it!
2. Stay on your diet! The only thing that should change is rotation of proteins, get off that yucky fish and start eating some chicken, turkey and other lean proteins.
3. Increase your carbs slightly. Now I don't have a formula here since I don't know what you were eating before, but an increase of carbs at each meal will do you a lot of good.
4. Keep doing cardio. Decrease your cardio by about 50% but don't stop it. Also keep on weight training. Your body should only need maybe 2 or 3 days off and after that you should be refreshed.
5. Be prepared to put on a few pounds. Don't sweat the small stuff, and increase in sodium, carbs and fluctuations in water will have you looking bloated, don't misinterpret that for fat. Keep on eating clean and it will balance out.
6. Find a new goal that is fun and stimulating to keep you in shape. |
