Greetings!

Spring is in the air and for me that means competition season is here.  There is nothing like dieting down while the weather gets warmer and warmer. 
 
I am officially contracted for my first show The California Pro Figure May 24th.  I have about 10 weeks to go and training is going excellent.  I am finally starting to see the resemblance of a figure competitor after 6 weeks of dieting already, it seemed things were just at a stand still for pretty much the whole first part of my program, and now finally the fat is breaking away.  

I think everyone can relate to this topic which is why I have chosen it for my fitness tip of the month.  Patience!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ANYWAY?  Ah yes, the magic question, that leaves us all scratching our heads.  One time we did this particular diet and it worked in 5 weeks, then we did the same diet again and nothing happened.  What gives? How long do I have to wait? I want what I want and I want it now! Can you relate to this one? I know I sure can.  

THE SECRET: This is going to sound very strange (maybe) but the secret is, to set up a program, nutrition, as well as training, stick to it like glue and forget that you are even dieting.  Forget that you even care about results. Forget that you are on a timetable, whatever you think that is (I want to be slim in 6 weeks, 12 weeks, or whatever).  Just run the program and allow it to delightfully surprise you when the results do happen.  Your body will work its magic on its own set timetable and when we rush the process we do two things, the first one is we dread the process, because we do not accept our bodies where they currently are and appreciate them. and second we increase cortisol, you know that little deadly hormone that helps us so well in keeping fat on?

MODERATING PROGRESS:  Oh yeah, I remember this from the last newsletter.  Well it is back. How are you going to tell if you are progressing if you do not have a way to measure.  Whether for you that is body fat testing, measuring your waist, getting on the scale or taking pictures once a week.  Just make sure you have a way to gauge it, but have patience. 
 
When I first started my competition training, I just ran the program, took pictures and kept training.  I really did not notice a whole lot happening but I also did not think about it too much either.  Now suddenly I am noticing, oh yeah, my pants are starting to fall off, I like that. I am starting to lean out.  I just keep on going, knowing that eventually I will get there. This way I can enjoy each training and cardio session and be stress free.
 
FOLLOW A SIMPLE PLAN: I think we all know how to eat properly. It is not rocket science.  We are inundated by the media with all sorts of fad diets, pills, potions, and quick fixes, the real trick is long lasting healthy eating, and exercise.  Over time, it is a surefire method.  It is not most likely the most recent fat burners you bought or the increase in cardio, or the decrease in calories, rather a combination including your mental state, that when you are ready to go to the next level you will know.  Start to rely on your own intuition to train, eat properly and select supplementation for optimum health and energy.  There is no one correct way.  If you feel ok with experimenting you will have a lot more fun living a successfully healthy lifestyle. You don't need a fancy diet to get results.  You just need a plan that offers you all the nutrients you need and makes you feel great.   Progress will come, I can guarantee you that.
