Our next cooking class will include two special guests: Gerard Lopez, Elephant Walk chef/owner and Spanish tour guide Teresa Parker, the authoraty on all things Catalonia, specially Barcelona.

WEDNESDAY 05/12/10 6-9 PM. If you've browsed our shelves, you've noticed that I love Spanish food almost as much as I love pasta. Come and learn to make an array of tapas -- Spain's famously flavorful small bites. Every region has its favorites, and in this class, we'll imagine we're in Barcelona as we make PA AMB TOMAQUET, Catalonia's answer to bruschetta, then stack up olives, peppers, boquerones, and more into flavor-packed PINTXOS (originally a Basque specialty, pintxos are a hot trend in Barcelona bars today). We'll also make ROMESCO SAUCE, an amazing blend of toasted nuts, roasted garlic and tomatoes, and smoky peppers...great with grilled vegetables. Two guests who really know Catalan food will be joining the class, too: Elephant Walk chef Gérard Lopez will show us how to make a luscious mussel and sausage dish, a MAR I MUNTANYA with ALIOLI, inspired by his childhood summer vacations on the Catalan coast. Teresa Parker, who leads food tours in the region, brings on taste of Barcelona's XOCOLATA obsession with a surprising sweet and savory dessert. We'll pair this Catalan noshfest with Cava, the bubbly produced near Barcelona and with one of the versatile red wines from the region or soft beverages, if you prefer. Registration fee is not charged to your account until after class is taken. Al Capone, founder of Capone foods loves pasta, but check out the shelves at his Somerville store and the evidence is clear: arebequina olive oil, sweet pimentón, dark chocolate... he's got a thing for Spain. So does our Chef Gérard Lopez, in spite of that French accent of his. His father was Spanish and he grew up spending summers on the Costa Brava eating Catalan food. - Join Al and Gérard for a casual cooking class where you'll learn to prepare the perfect, leisurely Mediterranean lunch, including dessert and wine. - . - The class begins at 10:00am and will end between 1:00 and 1:30pm.
