Welcome

"According to the dictionary, A New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a personal goal, project, or the reforming of a habit. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous. "

With the New Year, most of us decide whether to make or ignore the challenge of making New Year resolutions.  The challenge is to commit to these goals and then find that what we thought was a great idea on January 1st often is not reasonable or attainable based on our other commitments.

The Chapter needs your commitment and support as 2011 moves forward.  Without your membership and support we cannot meet the challenges of the New Year.  You are an important part of our success and so when you are making New Year resolutions, think of the Chapter and how you can support our programs through volunteering in the community, by mentoring the needs of your colleagues and the residents and medical students, and by taking advantage of the many programs we offer to support your practice in this challenging health care climate.

I look forward to working with all of you as the Chapter moves forward to meet the challenges of 2011.

County's Bridges Maternal Child Health Network (MCHN)

The Bridges Maternal Child Health Network (MCHN) is a multi-disciplinary system of providers that collaborate throughout Orange County to improve the health and well-being of young children 0 - 5 years of age. Under the management of the Orangewood Children's Foundation and funding from the Children and Families Commission of Orange County (CFCOC), BRIDGES represents a strong family-friendly infrastructure of Family Resource Centers (FRCs), Promotores, birthing hospitals, Public Health Nurses (PHN), and non-profit home visiting providers (Children's Bureau, Child Abuse Prevention Center, MOMS Orange County).   These providers work together to deliver regional programs that address a continuum of needs and utilize community-based FRCsas central hubs for delivering an array of culturally relevant services.

The Bridges Maternal Child Health Network also includes specialized home visitation programs that target specific populations such as medically high risk infants, pregnant moms with substance abuse histories/currently using, and the Nurse Family Partnership that serves pregnant teens (all implemented by the Orange County Health Care Agency Public Health Field Nursing). Other specialized home visitation providers of the MCHN include MOMS, serving pregnant moms and teens, and the Visiting Nurse Association that implements professionally led developmental "Mommy and Me" support groups.

The entire Bridges Maternal Child Health Network is open to referrals and invites physicians to utilize its services and develop referral relationships. For more information and/or a more detailed orientation, please contact the following Program Consultants: Diane Ilan, MFT (dilan100@cox.net) or Dena Rubin, MPH (dena.rubin@cox.net)
