Orange County Public Health
Update from Epidemiology

This preliminary alert to schools from the California Department of Health outlines the new pertussis booster vaccine requirement for students that has resulted from the passage into law yesterday of Assembly Bill 354.

While the logistics of implementing the new law are worked out over the next months, a key message to parents and health care providers is to immunize with Tdap now to:
1) protect students against the current threat
and
2) meet the 2011-12 school requirement.

Orange County Public Health:
Measles Advisory
Orange County Public Health urges clinicians to:
1. Consider measles in patients with febrile rash illness;
2. Assure that patients, their families, and your staff members are fully vaccinated; and
3. Use appropriate infection-control practices to prevent transmission in health-care settings.

All suspect cases of measles should be isolated immediately and reported to Public Health at 714-834-8180. Do not wait for laboratory confirmation to report to Public Health. Airborne and standard precautions should be instituted. Only immune healthcare workers (HCW) should care for these patients.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Children and Adolescents Conference

Dear friends,

 We are planning a meeting regarding sudden cardiac arrest in children and adolescents for January 14 and 15 in Disney, California.  It will be a good opportunity to meet, debate and hopefully come up with some guidelines on how best to handle this complex subject.  I hope you can make it.
