Many of the drugs used during chemotherapy have harsh side effects. One of those is called "Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy" which is when the drugs damage the nerves causing a lot of pain and problems walking or with grip in the hands.
A new study has shown that nerve health was increased with the use of acupuncture.

New Year's Resolutions
For many people their New Year's Resolutions include losing weight, managing their weight or just "firming up" however, it is often a struggle to stick to your plan and resist temptation and bad habits. Research shows that coaching and/or being in a group leads to much, much more success.
So in the spirit of 2011, a year of getting "online" Bob and Estelle have launched a FREE online Weight Management coaching service. Helping you get the results you want and cheering you on every time you meet a goal or triumph over tempatation.
The on-line sessions can be as private or as public as you want, you decide and if there are enough people interested, on-line group sessions can be arranged.

If sufficient numbers and you want a "face to face" group class in the clinic, this can be arranged as well. Just get in touch. |

Create Happy Hormones
Get Physical
Increase levels of oxytocin and dopamine, hormones that reduce stress levels by giving someone a hug or even stroking a cat or dog.
Give Thanks
Being thankful and grateful will help to produce calming oxytocin and counteract stressful adrenaline. So count your blessings, appreciate the fantastic weather we're having and give thanks for your family, even if they are driving you mad over the holidays!
Take Tea
A study at University College London shows that tea drinking lowers levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Terribly British but it works!
Retune the Radio
Classical music really does "soothe the savage beast". A study showed that classical music lowered stress levels and raised oxytocin levels. |

Blast 5 Winter Woes
Feeling Low
Get outside and get a blast of the gorgeous Spanish sun! Sunlight controls the productions of the mood boosting hormone serotonin.
Migraines
38% of sufferers say extreme cold is a trigger for migraines. While probably not a trigger in and of itself, if you are already weakened the cold can push you over the edge. So take care to avoid other triggers such as foods, hunger or tiredness when the weather cools. Acupuncture can also help to ease migraines.
Sore, Tired Eyes
Australian optometrists say that energy saving light bulbs can trigger problems as they emit a dimmer light than even the same wattage of an old bulb leading to eye strain.
Dry Skin
Rarely an issue here in Spain but central heating can reduce the humidity in a room so the air draws moisture from your skin. Try popping a bowl of water in a corner and using a richer moisturiser.
Cold Sores
The Herpes virus lies dormant in your system but if your immune system is fighting off a cold or flu it can take hold. Increase your vitamins levels including zinc and B vitamins to help strengthen your immune system.

Age Defying Foods
Iceberg Lettuce
Not as glamourous any more but 1 cup gives you 15% of your RDA of Vitamin A keeping your vision sharp.
Red Pepper
Packed with twice the vitamin C and 9 times the carotene of green peppers, they also contain folate to keep your skin looking young and vitamin A to stop the damage from UV light (age spots and wrinkles). Plus antioxidants that keep your heart healthy.
Quinoa
A brilliant source of protein so great for maintaining youthful skin and strong bones.
Eggs
A good source of protein as well as vitamin B12 to help fight fatigue, vitamin A and lutein to keep your eyes strong as well as Vitamins K and D for strong bones.
Leafy greens
Over the age of 20, our natural production of coenzyme Q10 slows down and by 40 we only have a quarter of the original level. This enzyme helps cells grow and stay well as well as being an antioxidant. You may also need to consider a supplement of Ubiquinol as it becomes harder to produce in the body as we age.
Cinnamon
This wonder spice reduces cholesteral, glucose and trigylceride levels and also inhibits growth of bacteria and boosts brain function. Plus it is an antioxidant that curbs cell damage. Better get drinking that Christmas Formula 1 flavour Cinnamon and Toffee Apple!
