Greetings!
"Running is one of the best solutions to a clear mind." ~ Sasha Azevedo
This time of year can be stressful and busy - as we lose an hour of our day to Daylight Savings "springing forward" and are surrounded by tax season. The best solution to these stresses? Get out for a run! I often find that whenever I feel like too many deadlines loom and the world is spinning out of control a run is just what I need to clear my mind. The endorphins produced by exercise and the fresh air leave me refreshed and ready to tackle anything. Take a run today to clear your mind and get your day off to a great start.
Keep running toward spring,
Paul Morrison

Not too Late for No Boundaries
If you've read about the No Boundaries 5k training program in our past newsletters, don't forget that it's not too late to enroll in the program. No Boundaries, a 5k training program co-sponsored by Fleet Feet and New Balance, begins at the end of the month - so now is the perfect time to sign up!
No Boundaries is a 10-12 week training program, aimed at taking beginning runners and those who have been generally inactive through the initial training process and into their first 5k race. After No Boundaries, you WILL cross the finish line of your first 5k!
No Boundaries is a great way to incorporate fitness into your regular routine. Some of the special features of this program include:
- 12 week training program
- Help & support from experienced coaches
- Weekly group training walks/runs
- Regular emails from your coaching team
- A special No Boundaries participant shopping night
- New Balance technical T-shirt & hat
- Monthly clinics on running-related topics such as nutrition, footwear, injury, etc.
This is a great opportunity to get involved, start running, and connect with other beginning runners. The cost of the No Boundaries program is $75 per person and does not include the 5k race registration fee.
No Boundaries begins with an informational meeting on March 20, 2008, and the kick off is March 29. Call or stop into Fleet Feet today to sign up!

Tips from the TriGuy
This time of year can be difficult for triathletes. The first race is still months away, yet we need to start really focusing on building our training. If you've trained for tris before, you know the feeling - it's the routine of doing a little of everything, but not feeling fit in anything. For those newer to triathlon training, this feeling is pretty typical at this time of year.
To break up this slightly monotonous and frustrating cycle, I have devised a method of training that gets me through this time of year and past any sense of frustration. At this point in my training, I like to take one sport and devote all of my weekly allotted workout time to it. Essentially, I am "supercharging" myself in a single sport for the week. This offers me a break from the other two while also motivating me even more the chosen discipline of the week. Occasionally, I train like this in a six week block, changing disciplines with each week and ultimately devoting two solid weeks to each sport. It really helps me see results in each discipline and also add some excitement in my training regimen.
Of course, take care not to go too hard on the chosen sport during its designated week. Overtraining and too much intensity can lead to injury, so make sure to work some drill in for a few sessions each week. If done right, this training method will help you feel refreshed and fast in each sport, one week at a time.
Happy "purist" training, TriGuy |
