When you just don't give a rip!
In 1970, the Beatles began work on a documentary intended to show how their music was made. Instead of revealing the process of musical creativity, the film pulled the curtain back on a display of self-interest and bickering. The band members were more concerned about their own songs than the advancement of the group. Shortly after the project was completed, the group dissolved in disharmony and broken friendships.
Most would say that it's an age-old problem...when the desire for personal advancement overrides concern for one another. In these circumstances our attitudes can quickly become disruptive and divisive.
Now where I'm I going with this. Well, we are now closing in at the halfway mark and as the 2010 President for the CAPS Ottawa Chapter I couldn't stop reflecting over the Chapters monthly Professional Development Seminars successes such as:
- Jan/10...attendance is up; we launched our 2010 Professional Development Seminar Series
- Feb/10...attendance is up; we raised money for the CAPS Foundation
- Mar/10...attendance is up; we raised over $3K during our silent auction for CAPS Ottawa
- Apr/10...attendance is up, the largest non-member ever for a Professional Development Seminar
- May/10...attendance is up; the largest group of the year for a Professional Development Seminar and premiered CAPS ProConneXions - an exclusive event for Professional members where eXperts eXchange eXperience
- June/10...attendance is up: we implemented a "buddy system" for guests attending our meetings whereby seasoned members are designated to a guest to answer any questions they may have and introduce them to other members
Our current success and momentum is due to people like Michael Hughes, Paul Frazer, David Riddell, Janet Stewart-Lussier, Jim Carty, Pauline Fleming, Raymonde Lemire and many more in the shadow, who have made themselves available to support the Ottawa Chapter and mentor me along the way. In my eyes they all have an attitude of how can I help...without looking for any type of credit - when you just don't give a rip who gets the credit!
It's a privilege indeed to serve the CAPS Ottawa Chapter. I hope to see you and connect at one of our upcoming professional development seminar.
It's your time to shine!
