A Message from our President, JJ Brun
GOALS AND VALUES...FULFILLING YOUR ASSIGNMENT
A few weeks ago Michael Hughes (The Networking Guru) found and shared to a group of professionals a one page "Personal Goals and Values" list that he had written 20 years ago. Michael was amazed at how applicable his list was to this day. I asked Michael for a copy in order to use as a template/model to developing my own (click here for your own copy).
Michael's list reminded me of an article I had kept that aligned itself to his list called "Fulfilling Your Assignment" by Bob Gass. The following is part of this article. Every day you live you're in the process of becoming. What you become depends on what you give yourself to. So consider these 7 steps:
- By making a commitment to grow daily, it won't be long before you begin to see real change.
- Value the process more then the product. Certain events may be helpful in making your decision, but it's going through the process that matures you into what you want to become one day.
- Don't wait for inspiration. Sometimes you can run on excitement, but most times only commitment will carry you through.
- If you're willing to pay now you'll enjoy the rewards later, and those rewards always taste sweeter.
- Don't focus on your limitations. By focusing on your limitations you magnify them.
- Learn to master your time. Since you can't recover lost time, make every moment count. What difference does a few minutes make? A lot when you add it all up!
- Life is filled with decisive moments when you have to trade one thing for another. Always trade up, not down. Want to fulfill your assignment? Follow these steps!
As I reflected on Michael Hughes "Personal Goals and Values" list in addition to Bob Gass' "Fulfilling Your Assignment" I came to the conclusion that CAPS is the association of choice in NCR to thrive towards fulfilling your assignment and reaching your goals as a professional speaker, trainer or keynoter.
Our May learning seminar with Jane Atkinson was outstanding! We even had to bring in extra chairs to accommodate everyone. Jane's teaching and value to our CAPS members was rock solid! Thank you indeed Jane for taking the time out of your busy schedule to support the CAPS Ottawa Chapter...and for waiving your traveling fees...wow...a generous $400 donation to our cause that we greatly appreciate - enjoy the flowers!
Well we now set our sight on next month's learning seminar - Tele-prospecting Mastery a no-nonsense workshop event featuring top telesales consultant and author, Jim Domanski. As an author of 4 books on tele-sales, Jim has been seen on various radio and television programs such as CBC's Venture Magazine, and has been featured in such publications as Selling Power, Advertising Age, Sales and Marketing Management, Profit Magazine and dozens of e-zines around the world.
One more quality speaker to learn from within the NCR. I hope you can find the time and invest in yourself in order to reach your goals and fulfill your given assignment...adding value to people's lives.
It's your time to shine.
CAPS Ottawa 2010 President
