A Message from our President, JJ Brun

Timely Insights
This month, I read a person's experience vis-à-vis a recent flight they were on. Their flight had been airborne for about 15 minutes when the pilot announced that the aircraft had a serious problem - which the crew was trying to analyse. A few minutes later, the pilot announced that it was a vibration and that they would have to return to the airport.
The flight attendants then made a series of step-by-step announcements explaining what was going on and what would happen once we were on the ground. In an event that could have been terrifying, the fears of the passengers were relieved because they were given the right information.
Very much like the flight attendants, the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS) of Ottawa provides valuable and timely insight into the speaking business in order to inform and assist our members.
Being equipped with the latest training/speaking trends and networking with other professional speakers helps in addressing the potential unknown of the speaking business and remove any doubts that might vibrate in our minds from time to time.
CAPS Ottawa is the Association of Experts Who Speak Professionally and we are proud to serve and assist the National Capital Region. Come and join us at our upcoming networking and learning events. You will be glad you did.
It's your time to shine,
CAPS Ottawa 2010 President

Your voice delivers your message and greatly influences the way your listeners will process it. Is your voice working for you or against you?
As a Speaker, your voice is the single most important communication instrument you have onstage, in your videos and CDs...
Are you stuck with the voice you have? How can you improve your eloquence?
Through the Multidimensional Voice Training Program, an approach based on years of experience as a Hollywood Movie Narrator, Stage Professional, and Classic Singer, Nabil will share little-known tips and insights that will make your presentation come alive. With simple excercises and proven delivery techniques, you will develop the hidden potential of your voice to captivate your audience with a compelling and melodic speech while creating a lasting impact!
You will learn how to:
- Craft your speech to enhance your voice delivery
- Understand how your voice is deeply connected to your body
- Improve the sound of your voice, protect it and nurture it through simple daily excercices
- Engage the right hemisphere of the brain to communicate on a deeper level
- Have fun while experimenting with rehearsing techniques
In this highly interactive session (don't forget to bring a copy of your speech!) the following elements will be explained in an engaging and entertaining style, using audiovisual elements, anecdotes, and demonstrations:
- The Vocal Instrument : The mechanics of the voice through the 3 main pillars : Power Breathing, Power Projection and Power Connection
- The Message: You are the Conductor of the elements of your speech. True symphony arises when words are carefully selected; sounds are skillfully projected; intention is clearly communicated; and energy is properly harnessed.
You will have a chance to practice with your own script, playing with sounds, vowels, consonants and various background music to make your speech come alive.
