It may be that few of us have felt the call to serve our nation in uniform. Even still, today more than ever, we are being called to serve. During the first half of the month of November, it is almost impossible not to think of our military, Remembrance day and the sacrifices made by a few on behalf of so many.
Regardless of our individual views regarding war, Canada's peacekeeping status or who is at fault in any particular conflict - I suggest to you that it would be difficult to find a soldier fulfilling his or her duty today who does not do so from a desire to serve.
...and now it is your turn.
Your clients are experiencing times of unprecedented challenge. True, in many ways, our economy has turned the corner and is moving forward, yet there are still many individuals who have yet to feel the effect of this 'turn of events'.
Within our membership are experts on topics which cover virtually any area of life or business. Through your knowledge and skill, people are able to weather their storms. As you give of your ability, your clients can develop the capability to excel.
Are you prepared to serve? As you shape your plans for the end of 2009 and look toward 2010, how many people will be impacted by your efforts?
While you may not have been called to arms for your country - as a speaker, a trainer, facilitator or consultant you are preparing individuals and teams for their own battles.
I challenge you, during the balance of 2009 and into 2010, genuinely serve your clients. Place their interests and needs before your own. No, I am not saying to become a door mat and allow everyone to walk on you. I am asking you to keep in the forefront of your mind the fact that your clients are looking to you to fill a need, solve a problem and make change. This is a difficult task if you are thinking only of yourself.
Service, as a way of life, is one of the few methods to become successful while aiding others to succeed. I dare you to try it. But be careful, it is contagious.
