A Message from our President, Jim Carty CSP
Speaking of Impact
This month, in cooperation with three other local professional associations, CAPS Ottawa was able to raise over $5000 towards the fulfillment of a young child's wish. This is the second time that we have been able to use our collective skills and resources in support of Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario.
A trainer and consultant shared with me recently how she invited a dozen of her colleagues to voluntarily brainstorm around the needs of a local non-profit centre in need of assistance. In the end, the centre was provided with ideas and solutions which, if implemented, could remove a key roadblock to the organization's future growth and success. Solutions they may never have attained considering their current financial condition.
While speaking with a client of one of our members, I was told about new levels of clarity and confidence achieved in regards to her business development. This breakthrough resulted from a conversation over a cup of coffee which started simply with a genuine, "How are things going?"
As professional speakers and trainers, consultants and coaches, our members are often recognized for the impact made at the corporate level: "Our company was turned around..."; "Our revenues went up by..."; "The conference speaker was so good...".
These accolades and testimonies, while gratifying, often don't tell the whole story. During my years as a CAPS Chapter Board member, and even more so as a Chapter President, I have had opportunity to hear the stories of a CAPS member making an impact in ways which don't always 'make the headlines'.
Oddly enough, while these efforts may not make you the same amount of money as some of your other activities, they do make you richer in every sense of the word.
On behalf of those you serve when you are not on the platform or in front of your audiences, "Thank you for your impact."
Gratefully, Jim CartyPresident 2009

PAO Golf Tournament - A SUCCESS! It was a privilege to Chair the 2nd PAO Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This event did not happen without the combined efforts of many and with those efforts we were able to raise over $6,000.00 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Ontario... An outstanding result when you consider the character building moments our economy gave us this year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, Documents Etcetera, Creative Unity, JJ Communications, Investors Group and Beneficium, in addition to all of the companies and individuals who donated prizes towards our silent and live auction. The Meadows Golf & Country Club were an excellent host for this event, the course was fantastic and all last minute challenges were taken care of with great professionalism. I was however surprised to see a police officer with his bike on the course, even more surprised when he gave me a ticket for speeding. When I tried talking my way out of the ticket (mimicking his British accent... Not a good thing to do by the way, as he was Irish) he increased the ticket to 10 pounds... All for the cause! The MC for the evening was our very own Michael Hughes... What an outstanding job he did, keeping the evening light, fun and on track... Thank you INDEED Michael you really came through and the pie was to die for! In closing I would like to thank all the golfers who took the time to play some golf or a version of it (as did Jim Carty), network and support a great cause. I hope you all enjoyed your day with us and take pleasure that you had a part in making a wish come true for a child. Please keep us in mind for next year and let us know how we can build from this year's successful event. Jean (JJ) Brun

Last month we discussed Individual Pension Plan (IPP) as a retirement planning option, this month we'll explore Retirement Compensation Arrangement (RCA).
As these programs are complex in nature, they require an in-depth understanding of your financial circumstance; therefore, a detailed financial review is highly recommended in order for us to determine if these are appropriate for your situation.
Please call us to set up a preliminary appointment, so we can determine if you would qualify for such an arrangement, if not, what alternative program may be best suited for you.
