PrezA Message from our President, Jim Carty CSP

The time for change is at hand...

Jim CartyThe arguments had been heard, the decisions made, the ballots cast and counted. Now the inauguration of President Obama has taken its place along side those other historical events by which progress is often measured.

Much of the American population are firmly convinced that change is as imminent as it is necessary. Einstein's quote has often been referred to at times such as this: "We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

The questions that I have been asking myself during this time (and would pose to you) are - "What is there that I would like to see changed?  What or how was I thinking when I created this situation?"

During our January event, Shelle Rose Charvet, the CAPS National President shared with our chapter thoughts on how important the words we choose are in creating our desired results. A simple yet profound example is the current plan to "bailout" assorted industries across North America.  Regardless of your opinion about the wisdom of the plan, as Shelle mentioned, the term "bailout" has never been used with improvement in mind. Sinking ships are "bailed out" and someone can be "bailed out" of jail. When did "bailout" begin to equate to "rescue"?

Many of us would like to change one or more aspects of our businesses and improve the results we receive from our efforts.  Has your thinking changed to allow the improvement?  Are the words you are using being chosen with your desired changes in mind?

Your clients are looking to you to provide solutions which will positively impact their businesses and organizations.  Are you, in the words of Ghandi, prepared to "be the change that you want to see"?

Jim Carty
