At Cape Fear Valley, there have been many barriers to implementing our goals for participation in the PQCNC Exclusive Human Milk Initiative. There is a saying that it is crazy to expect different results when you continue to do the same old things. With this in mind, our team looked at what we considered to be our largest barriers, and buy-in from our staff has been one of those barriers. In an attempt to educate and help the staff understand the importance of this initiative, the team decided that a newsletter could help with communication. We did actually use some components of Mission's newsletter, but we also wrote articles that specifically targeted our efforts. The addition of pictures of our staff and families helped to really make it more personal. The newsletter is primarily intended for e-mail distribution to staff, but we did make print some "hard-copy" versions for the staff lounge. It is the team's intention to produce the newsletter on a quarterly basis and possibly extend our distribution to our families.
