Upcoming important dates, next steps for the Human Milk Well Baby Phase II Initiative...

(The HM Well Baby initiative's weekly email newsletter comes out every Wednesday.)

March 14 2012
...from Marty

McCaffrey And we're off!  We have had lots of discussion about key drivers that will lead to success in increasing breastfeeding rates. We have reconfigured data collection so that it is somewhat more manageable. In order to improve the accuracy of the data we are reporting we have also asked that data be collected on all dyads, with up to a maximum of at least 200 reports being entered into the data system monthly. If your facility delivers less than 200 babies per month, hit us with everything you've got! Reporting on more than 200 dyads for larger centers is always welcome!

It is expected that March will be a time to reorient to the new data elements. Likely you have identified key drivers in the action plan that are critical for your facility to work on. Begin that work this month. Pick a high priority area and develop an intervention that will impact that key driver  and assess impact. Do this over a week or two. If the change you conceive is fairly dramatic, consider initiating it with a real champion who will be around to support the change, be able to measure and assess impact, and report back to others on the results of the intervention.

Phase 2 goes through September. We don't have a lot of time to ponder data before we get moving. You all developed some great momentum and cohesiveness as a collaborative in Phase 1. We did some great work. I hope you all know this. Let's keep those juices flowing. Time to saddle up....we are burning daylight!

...from the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition

information

Dear Breastfeeding supportive colleagues,

The North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition has been awarded a grant to identify 10 businesses in our state that have implemented a lactation support program to highlight in a national data base of breastfeeding friendly employers.  The process will move quickly, and selection needs to be completed by the end of March in order to visit the selected sites prior to May 1.  If you are aware of any employers who have instituted breastfeeding support policies/lactation programs for non-salaried employees please reply to this email with answers to the questions below.
Thank you for your time.  If you would like to help with this project directly by doing site visits or approaching identified businesses on the phone, please reply to this email to let me know of your interest.
1) Are you aware of any businesses in your area that have implemented a lactation support program for hourly employees? If so please send me their name and contact information.

2) Would you be interested in helping us screen businesses or visit worksites to interview them and take pictures once the 10 are identified? If so, please give us your name, email, and phone number below. Also indicate which area of the grant you want to help with (phone contacting businesses and/or site visits).

I apologize if you are receiving this request twice.  If you are a member of another organization we are sending this email to you will receive it more than once.
