Upcoming important dates, next steps for the SIVB Initiative...

(The Support for Birth initiative's weekly email newsletter comes out every Tuesday.  As a reminder, it is your job as key contact to share relevant information with other team members at your hospital.)

SIVB Phase II

learning session  Thanks to everyone that attended the November 2nd Learning Session. We made great progress in developing Phase II of this initiative!
We continue to see as our primary documented indications for C-section: FTP (1st stage), NRFHR, and Failure to Descend (2nd stage). There is statistical significance in our work for decreasing the c-section rate overall and among patients with risk factors (obesity, AMA, DM, Hypertensive disease, IUGR). Keep up the great work!

Next steps:
The November 2nd attendees brainstormed the idea of concentrating on 2-3 key points for the SIVB initiative (i.e. dilatation and/or 'active labor' on admission) and focusing on the outcomes. Since we are seeing that patients 'in labor' and dilated on admission are significantly less likely to have a c-section, we may need to concentrate our efforts on the group of patients that are not in labor and not dilated. The group also brainstormed on working to have a 'dedicated set of triage nurses' to work collaboratively with the hospital PQCNC SIVB teams.

Data Collection:
In light of the narrower focus some points were recommended for removal such as IUPC usage, MVUs and labor support methods. To view the DRAFT of the suggested data collection form, click here

Please review the new form as soon as possible and send me your comments and suggestions - the intent is to narrow the focus, make data collection fast and easy with an eye toward collecting all patients rather than sampling.  Tell us what you think!

November 22nd Webinar 7:30-8:30

conference call We will continue to work on the development of Phase II of this initiative in November's webinar. Please plan to have at least one person from your team on the call to provide 'a voice' for your team.

for webinar information.

Data Entry Deadline the 20th of the Month

data entry
Just a reminder: data entry deadline is by the 20th of each month so data reports and information can be available for our teams and webinars. We ARE making a difference as we work to make North Carolina the best place to be born!
