September Webinar and Data Trends
|
|
Thanks to everyone that participated in today's webinar. Great conversations and awesome participation! Thanks Cynthia Eckert for your willingness to showcase CMC NorthEast.
Our baseline Cesarean Section Joint Commission rate was 26.84% and our August data is showing a downward trend (23.37%). We had 7 hospitals not enter data for August so this could be affecting our results. We are also seeing a downward trend (24.77% to 21.44%) for the SIVB cesarean section rate.
Our largest downward trend is the cesarean section rate of patients with one or great risk factors (baseline 38.17% to 27.97%). We are also seeing that patients not in labor on admission have a 32.19% C/S rate as compared to patients IN LABOR on admission with a 14.52% C/S rate. That means there's over 2 times the likelihood of a patient NOT IN LABOR on admission to have a C/S.
Our primary documented indications for C/S are FTP, NRFHR, and Failure to Descend for patients with risk factors and patients without documented risk factors. We are seeing a downward trend of patients dilated 0-3cm when FTP is documented as primary reason for C/S and will continue to watch this area.
We are not seeing a significant increase in the use of IUPCs among FTP patients ending in C/S however we are seeing an upward trend (40% initially and 55% in August) of use of IUPC with documented adequate contractions.
Documented labor support methods have our epidural usage hovering around 80% with a slight downward trend in support from families/friends and a further decline in the 1:1 nursing care. We'll continue to watch this as this is a busy time of year on most labor & delivery units.
As we continue to look at our data, we'll watch the overall trends or quarterly trends versus month to month trends.

Learning Session - November 2nd at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh
|
|
Pre-register your team here
At our next learning session, let's share our great work! Please plan to bring 15 copies of handouts such as your Induction of Labor Consents, policies or order sets to 'show case' what your team has implemented. We'll share these at our learning session.
Phase II: Come with your great ideas on what YOU think Phase II should look like-a revised data collection form, a shift in focus, or a continuation of the current Phase? Great feedback from CMC NorthEast to work on changing our culture by including office managers of private OB offices and clinics to 'touch' the patient before entering our doors.
