The NCCC call yesterday was inspirational in a number of ways. Perhaps most impressive was the transparency and determination 8 centers exhibited in discussing and attempting to overcome common challenges. Many are carrying the banner for promoting the use of human milk for newborns big and small, but more than a few are reluctant to actively advance the cause. "We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire...Given the tools we will finish the job."
To that end it was proposed on our call yesterday that our experts, Polly, Laurie and Linda consider developing a 3/4 day program for willing EHM NCCC hospitals' staff to visit with centers who over time have overcome the cultural challenges many of us are now facing. PQCNC can develop a plan to support two such opportunities, one in an Eastern location and one in the West. Linda was gracious enough to invite us all to Asheville in October and I believe we should all take her up on it!
We should consider this a pilot program. If well received and successful, we should consider how the EHM Nursery teams might take advantage of such an opportunity to visit a partner center and learn firsthand from their experience. If you're an EHM Nursery Center please let Keith know if you would be willing to host a 3/4 day session or if you would be interested in visiting a center.
If your NCCC center would be willing to participate in such a site visit, or if you have suggestions for how it might be developed, please contact Keith. He will keep a list of interested facilities and forward all suggestions to Laurie, Polly and Linda.

More questions for you...
|
|
1) For NCCC teams: which breast milk storage containers do you provide to your mothers? Do you like them? Have you had any problems with them? Some containers have a chemical odor that does not completely go away after removing the lid and we would like to know if there is a better sterile container out that other hospitals are using.
2) Are any NCCCs are adding HMF before reaching 100 ml/kg/day? Let us know if you have experience with this.
Please respond directly to this email - thanks!
