Upcoming important dates, next steps for the SIVB Initiative...

(The Support for Birth initiative's weekly email newsletter comes out every Tuesday.  As a reminder, it is your job as key contact to share relevant information with other team members at your hospital.)

July 19, 2011
July all-team webinar is Tuesday, July 26 at 7:30am

conference call We hope most teams will be able to attend next week's webinar, where we plan to discuss several important topics:

First, we'll look at the first 4 months of data (all hospitals have now submitted data for February-May) to see what has happened so far in this initiative (Hint: May data shows a decrease in the NTSV c-section rate!).  Next, we'll ask members of the SIVB teams to discuss strategies to address the challenge of engaging physicians in this work.  We especially hope to hear from your physician champions about what motivated them to take on this quality improvement project and how they think we can best reach their colleagues.  Finally, we'll take some time to discuss the future of this initiative - what PQCNC activities will take place during the rest of 2011, what areas of practice we should emphasize for testing changes, and what options may exist in 2012 to sustain this work.

Data update

data entry ·    Please be sure your team's June data has been entered.  If you are not sure, or if you need more time, please contact Jessica.  We are interested to see if the downward trend in the NTSV c-section rate continues.
·    Sample size reminder: an individual hospital's c-section rate may fluctuate from month to month on your PQCNC report due to the sample size, without representing an actual change in your hospital's overall rate.  Looking at all the hospital data combined, the numbers are big enough to represent a true trend.  At the end of the year, we'll provide each hospital with a report showing your c-section rate for the first half and the second half of the initiative separately - hopefully the second half of the data will show a decrease in the NTSV c-section rate at your facility!
·    As long as not all 24 hospitals ask at the same time, Jessica and I remain available for custom data requests if there are rates you would like us to run that are not included in the regular report you receive.  Let us know what data might be helpful for your team.
