Study compares 3 approaches to physician behavior change in L&D |
A study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology in November 2010 looks at three strategies to change physician behavior related to scheduling elective deliveries (inductions and c-sections) before 39 weeks. 27 hospitals participated in a pilot project focused on eliminating elective delivery <39 weeks, using one of three strategies: hospital-enforced policy changes, policy changes that were not enforced by hospital staff but with a peer review component, and physician education only. These results may be useful as SIVB hospitals consider approaches to changing physician behavior (e.g, scheduling of elective inductions in NTSV patients with a low Bishop score or performing C/S for "failure to progress" before a given cervical dilation in the presence of reassuring fetal heart rate). SIVB teams may want to consider working at the hospital level to implement and enforce policies to promote the desired outcomes.

An update from Dr. McCaffrey... |
It is with profound gratitude and deep regret that we announce the departure of Dr. Nancy Chescheir from her position as the Clinical Leader for Maternal Projects for PQCNC. Dr. Chescheir has been a driving force in the execution of PQCNC's 39 Weeks and SIVB initiatives. Dr. Chescheir's capable service will be sorely missed, but the demanding work of current initiaitves will continue. PQCNC will be actively searching to fill the Clinical Leader for Maternal Projects position over the next several weeks as we continue to provide support for the incredible work you all are doing.
