March Learning Session Snafu

conference call Please accept my apologies to the teams  and individuals unable to connect to the virtual learning session on Monday and for the last minute change in call in numbers.  You may have been able to turn lemons into lemonade like Catawba, where Trish Beckman said, since unable to connect, "We had a great team meeting, got lots of steps in place and had a student join our team and take on some tasks so it was a productive use of the time.... The afternoon definitely served its purpose of getting us back on track." Teams able to be on the call reviewed recent activities and Dr. Dunn presented Part 1 of the complex topic of feeding guidelines. The slides are available  here.

Learning Session 2 pre-registration

learning session Learning Session 2 for this initiative will be held in Raleigh on May 19 2011.  The travel team is comprised of 3-6 individuals willing to attend and share detailed information about how your unit has increased the number of VLBW infants who receive mother's milk for the first 28 days of life.  Please have one member of your team  click here to pre-register the members of your team who will attend the learning session.

Article Encourages Critical Review of Feeding Practices forwarded by Laurie Dunn, MD

information Dr. Josef Neu is a clinician-researcher who is helping us translate research into improved clinical practices.   In a recent NeoReviews article (Neu.  Myths and Dogmas in Neonatal Gastroenterology and Nutrition.  NeoReviews 2007;8:e485-489) he encourages us all to reevaluate some of our routine unit practices, practices that may be based more on tradition than on strong science, but which may have a negative impact on neonatal nutrition.
