Significant tests of change are in the works! |
|
Thanks to team members from Cape Fear, Jeff Gordon, Duke, Forsyth, Levine, Mission, Pitt, NHRMC, WakeMed and Women's for sharing with each other the work that is happening in their units in our first focus area: helping mother's obtain milk and increasing kangaroo care. Many teams are working in more than one area and testing multiple process improvements. During the learning session the teams heard from the clinical leads and from each other offering support and suggestions. Please continue the good work on these primary drivers known to be associated with improved results.

Next Virtual Learning Session |
|
Thanks for looking for an alternate date for our monthly meetings by phone and computer. We will meet on March 14th and again on April 11th. I hope every team signs on from work or from home for these important updates and exchanges among teams. Please put the dates on the calendar.

Streaming video resource and J Morton article |

Polly highlighted a reference in our webinar today - Morton J, et al. Combining hand techniques with electric pumping increases milk production in mothers of preterm infants. Journal of Perinatology 2009;29:757-764 - click here to access
Additionally, seeing hand expression and pumping is powerful and Polly recommends the Stanford videos on Hand Expression of Breastmilk and Maximizing Milk Production with Hands On Pumping.

Data collection forms |
|
I will be speaking with each team in the next week about data collection. At this point you should have strong systems in place to capture data on your forms needed for each infant under 1500 grams from admission to discharge. Additionally, I will be brainstorming with you about getting the collected data into the website.
