Upcoming important dates, next steps for the SIVB Initiative...

(The Support for Birth initiative's weekly email newsletter comes out every Tuesday.  As a reminder, it is your job as key contact to share relevant information with other team members at your hospital.)

January 25, 2011
Prep time!

AgendaThis is the last week of preparation for the "active phase" of this project.  By the end of January, here's what you should have in place:

·    an action plan outlining your teams goals and objectives, needed stakeholders, and planned changes to guide your team's work from February to June
·    key team members in place (nurse champion, physician champion, senior hospital administrator), actively engaged, and ready to lead tests of change
·    a plan for data collection/data entry and staff ready to implement it (this means staff who will be collecting data have the correct form and know how/when to use it and staff who will be entering data have access to the data website and know how to use it).

Because of the abbreviated timeframe for this initiative, teams should have all of these elements in place by the end of this month so that during the active phase of this project, time and energy can be devoted to making improvements.  If your team needs help with any of these preparatory steps (getting access to the Extranet and/or SIVB data website, choosing a course of action, setting goals, or engaging needed team members or other stakeholders), please let us know.  We want you to be able to focus your upcoming efforts on testing changes that will increase the rate of vaginal delivery in the NTSV population, rather than spending time on adminstrative tasks associated with this project.

January 11 follow-up

contract signing My profound apologies for the confusion about the participant Information Sheet needed by Wake AHEC in order to issue CME to those who participated in the January 11 session.  The information sheet can be found here with a corrected fax number; the fax number to which it should be sent is: 919-843-7866.  We have extended the deadline to this Thursday, January 27 due to the problems with the fax number last week.  Please return the form ASAP if you attended the January 11 session and have not already submitted your form to us.

January 11 teams should submit their "goals and objectives" sheet to PQCNC by the end of this week.  This can be found on the last page of the "teams worksheet" which was one of the webinar handouts.  Let us know if your team does not have a copy of this document.  Each team should have met to work on this document, which will serve as your draft acton plan.

Mark your calendars

conference call The first interactive all-team webinar is February 22 from 7:30-9am.  Make sure your team members have this date on their calendar.  We will be focusing on practices related to induction of labor with a specific focus on cervical ripening.  We will ask teams to present some of their current practices and the changes they are working on making next month.  If your team has a specific practice, challenge or strategy you would like to discuss on this webinar, please let us know (kberrien@unch.unc.edu) so we can include you on the agenda.
