Upcoming important dates, next steps for the SIVB Initiative...

(The Support for Birth initiative's weekly email newsletter comes out every Tuesday.  As a reminder, it is your job as key contact to share relevant information with other team members at your hospital.)

December 7, 2010
Baseline data collection

data entryWe have received October data from most hospitals at this point, and November data has started to trickle in.  Please send COPIES of your November forms by the end of this week to:

Keith M. Cochran
P.O. Box 1117
Chapel Hill, NC 27514

Let us know if we can help in any way with your baseline data collection process.

Team Champions

key contacts Do you have all three champions in place for your team (nurse, physician and hospital)?  Have you told us who they are?  If you need to update your team's roster, email Jessica Phipps at jphipps@email.unc.edu.  These three champions, in addition to other team members, are essential voices to enable your team to take steps toward reducing the c-section rate.  The hospital champion should be someone above the level of unit manager who can truly bring the support of the institution to your team's work.  This person may not be as actively involved in the day-to-day work on this initiative.

Please let us know if you still do not have a physician engaged as your physician champion at this time; Dr. Chescheir is available to reach out to obstetricians and is happy to respond to their questions and concerns.

Today in the US, hundreds of organizations of all sizes and reach are gaining a voice and the expertise to help solve some of health care's most intractable quality and safety problems. The rapid growth of patient advisory councils is just the latest example of patients becoming an integral and integrated force in the redesign of care.
