Data collection 2010

data entry I have spoken to some of you who were "late" getting started and I'd like for each team to consider their plan for December data collection. As a reminder, this data collection period has two goals:  document current critical processed associated with successful support for the mom of the VLBW infant to pump milk for her baby , and introduce the initiative and the data collection tool to the staff who carry out these processes in their daily work. The goal for 2010 was to enroll 10 patients who were less than 1500 grams at birth and complete the data collection tool for those infants.  Two reasons should be considered for data collection in December: to make the goal of 10 patients in 2010, or to keep the rhythm of data collection going if you determine that a pause in data collection would confuse the staff. I know some teams will continue collecting data well into December. Please contact me if you have questions about this.

Registration for Learning Session 1

learning session The Learning session for this initiative will be held in Winston Salem on 13 January 2011.  As I said last week, the home team should be as large as you can manage. The travel team is comprised of 3-6 individuals willing to begin the design for your unit to increase the number of VLBW infants who receive mother's milk for the first 28 days of life. Evidence will be presented to support the drivers in the action plan in addition to how the science of improvement will be applied in this initiative. The objective of the learning session will be met if participants end the day feeling energized, excited about the work, with an action plan that includes a strategy based on their opportunities, and a project plan for the first 2-3 months of work.  The travel team should include the physician or NNP champion, the senior sponsor, nurse champions, and a family member who will be working with your team. Please have one member of your team click here to record the members of your home team and indicate the ones who will attend the first learning session.
