Data collection 2010

data entry I have spoken to many of you who were "late" getting started and I'd like for each team to consider their plan for December data collection. As a reminder, this data collection period has two goals:  document current critical processed associated with successful exclusive breastfeeding , and introduce the initiative and the data collection tool to the staff who carry out these processes in their daily work. In high volume maternity centers, by collecting two new deliveries and couplet experiences until discharge each day for two months, you should have close to 100 fully completed data collection forms. Maternity centers with lower volume are likely collecting every delivery in order to get as close to 100 as possible. One of two reasons should be considered for data collection in December: to make the goal of 100 patients in 2010, or to keep the rhythm of data collection going if you determine that a pause in data collection would confuse the staff. I know several teams will continue collecting data well into December. Please contact me if you have questions about this.

Registration for Learning Session 1

learning session In order to decrease the travel time for your team, the learning session will be offered twice; in Winston Salem and in Raleigh. It is important for your team to attend as a group.  As I said last week, the home team should be as large as you can manage. The travel team is comprised of 3-6 individuals willing to begin the design for your unit to increase exclusivity of breastfeeding in your patient population. Evidence will be presented to support the drivers in the action plan in addition to how the science of improvement will be applied in this initiative. The objective of the learning session will be met if participants end the day feeling energized, excited about the work, with an action plan that includes a strategy based on their opportunities, and a project plan for the first 2-3 months of work.  The travel team should include the physician or CNM champion, the senior sponsor, nurse champions, and a family member who will be working with your team. Please have one member of your team click here to record the members of your home team and indicate the ones who will attend the first learning session.

Baseline Data Call: Reminder

conference callI have scheduled another phone call on Thursday, November 18, from 2-3 pm. Any team is welcome to call in with questions or comments to share; the call in number is 919-962-2734. If your team did not participate in at least one of the October calls, please be sure to schedule a team member to participate on the Thursday call this week.

More Team to Team Sharing

survey Eslie Holliday has graciously provided the data collection tool she and her team developed for use at Women's Hospital in Greensboro.  Click to view or print the data collection form. This is another example of individualizing the "look and feel" of the tool while still collecting the data points that will need to be entered into the web site when available. Thank you Eslie!
