Team Development |
Using quality improvement science and the expertise of the "Home Team" that you are assembling, you are on a course to declare your aim, measure what matters and begin to make very small changes sequentially that will contribute to positive results. The size of the "Home Team" is up to you; involve as many participants as you can manage. One of the current tasks for your team is to decide who will constitute the "Travel Team" of 3-6 individuals that participate in the Learning Session on January 13th in Winston Salem. I will send a registration link in my email next week.

New Liquid HMF |
You may be aware that Mead Johnson's new liquid human milk fortifier is available or soon will be. Polly Sisk, one of the initiatives clinical leaders, writes: "It is a sterile liquid that is packaged in 5 ml vials. 5 ml are added to 25 ml of breast milk to make 24 calories/oz. It is higher in protein (4 g/kg/day in 150 ml/kg/day HM), has added DHA, and provides 280 IU vitamin D/150 ml/kg/day). It also provides 2 mg iron/150 ml. It 'seems like' an improvement because it will eliminate the need for additional protein, maintenance iron, and possibly vitamin D supplementation but will displace some of the total breast milk intake." The data collection form will collect the use of this product starting in January.
