Key contacts list is growing!
Many of you have forwarded the name of a second key contact and I am continuously updating my list. The key contacts agree to maintain an internal distribution list, and, to forward information to team members. I hope every team has met and planned for regular huddles as we embark on this initiative. Establishing these huddle schedules, reserving space, and building the team in a thoughtful manner are all activities that will serve you well in the coming year if they are established this fall.

A Senior Sponsor is highly advantageous for team success |
In this email I want to highlight the role of the senior sponsor, ideally, someone above the medical or nursing directors of the units. These individuals help teams by aligning the work with the mission of the hospital, keeping the work in front of the hospital administration group and by holding the team accountable for active participation in the initiative. Click here for a Tool developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to assist senior sponsors and share it with your sponsor in your next meeting. Thank you in advance for forwarding this document.

Collecting baseline data
All hospitals participating in the initiative should be collecting baseline data during October and November. Low volume delivery services are likely collecting information on every delivery. The goal for baseline is to have more than 100 babies experiences documented on the data collection tool from three sources: L&D, each complete shift for the mother and baby dyad in your hospital and discharge information. Data collection phone "meetings" are scheduled on 13 October from 9-10 am and 28 October from 2-3 pm. The call in number is 919-962-2730.
