Key contacts list is growing!

key contactsMany of you have forwarded the name of a second key contact and I am continuously updating my list. The key contacts agree to maintain an internal distribution list, and, to forward information to team members. I hope every team has met and planned for regular huddles as we embark on this initiative. Establishing these huddle schedules, reserving space, and building the team in a thoughtful manner are all activities that will serve you well in the coming year if they are established this fall.

A Senior Sponsor is highly advantageous for team success

success keys In this email I want to highlight the role of the senior sponsor, ideally, someone in administration above the medical or nursing directors of the units. These individuals help teams by aligning the work with the mission of the hospital, keeping the work in front of the hospital administration group and by holding the team accountable for active participation in the initiative. Click here for a Tool developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to assist senior sponsors and share it with your sponsor for your next meeting. Thank you in advance for forwarding this document.
Collecting baseline data

data entry All hospitals participating in the initiative should be collecting baseline data during October and November. Any admission of an infant <1500 grams and less than 5 days old is a candidate. More than 80 % of Babies under 1500 grams are born in hospitals with newborn critical care centers; for this initiative the day of birth is "day 0" and the data collection tool begins with the first full day shift after birth. The goal for baseline is to have the experiences of 8 babies documented on the data collection tool from admission through discharge. The challenge for data completion will be the discharge data since it's possible for several weeks to pass between day 28 and discharge. Data collection phone "meetings" are scheduled on October 13 from 10-11 am and October 28 from 3-4 pm. The call in number is 919-962-2730.
