Mark your calendars

1. We will have a brief conference call/webinar on Tuesday October 26 at 12:00 to check in about baseline data collection. This call will last approximately 30 minutes, but we will be available from 12-1 in case we are not able to answer all questions in that timeframe. 2. The first learning session for this initiative will be held in Winston Salem on Tuesday, January 11 and in Raleigh on Tuesday, January 25. Your team should attend one session as a group. CME credit will be provided at no cost. The three team leads - physician champion, nurse champion, and senior hospital administrator - are all required to attend this session. You are also strongly encouraged to include someone from your quality or performance improvement department, as there will be specific programming for them. Staff nurses, patient advocates, educators and other key stakeholders may also represent your team at the learning session. Each team is welcome to bring up to six team members. Check next week's email for registration information.

Do you have a physician champion?
If you are having trouble identifying a physican lead (or other team member) for your Support for Birth team, let us know. Dr. Chescheir, the PQCNC maternal health clinical director, is available to reach out to your OB Department or to speak with an individual physician who may have questions about this initiative. We are also available to meet with your hospital's senior leadership to help them understand their role in this work.

The PQCNC Support for Birth team has a new member!
I am pleased to introduce our newest staff member, Jessica Phipps, a first-year student in the Master's in Public Health program at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC. Jessica is concentrating in Maternal and Child Health, is a DONA-certified doula, and claims that she loves working with spreadsheets! You will be hearing from Jessica in the weeks to come as we work on registration for the January learning session and on gathering a complete roster for your team. Katherine Bryant, the graduate student who worked with us last year on the 39 Weeks Project, has finished her master's and is now working in Washington, DC.
