Study of Interest
|
|
The September issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology includes a study from the Consortium on Safe Labor about the frequency and causes of cesarean delivery in the United States. This study looked at records of over 220,000 women at 19 hospitals across the U.S. from 2002-2008 and found that 31.2% of nulliparous women delivered by c-section. 44% of women attempting vaginal delivery had an induction of labor. The rate of c-section among women with inductions was twice that of women with spontaneous labor among nulliparous and multiparous women, before and after 39 weeks of gestation.
