Important Next Steps

Welcome to PQCNC's Supporting Intended Vaginal Birth initiative (SIVB, or "Support for Birth"). We have received your registration. Below are some important next steps:
1. Mark your calendar for Tuesday September 21, 1:00-2:30pm, for a webinar to review the data collection methods for this initiative. To access the webinar, click here. For the audio portion, dial 712-432-6100, passcode 96875#. You must dial in by telephone to participate in the webinar. We recommend that you practice accessing this website in advance of the webinar if you are not familiar with it. Each team must have at least one representative attend this webinar; that person will be responsible for orienting your team to data collection procedures.
2. Hospitals will collect data on all nulliparous patients >37 weeks delivering singleton, vertex babies from October 1 - November 30 (excluding those who are admitted for scheduled c-section). This will constitute the "prework" for this initiative and will allow your hospital to determine the baseline rate of vaginal birth in this population. Regular data collection will begin on February 1, 2011; monthly and quarterly reports will allow your team to measure any improvements resulting from changes you are testing at your site. The initiative will end in January 2012. 3. All teams must attend the one-day January 2011 learning session for this initiative. We will repeat this session in multiple locations across the state. Once we know how many teams will be participating from each region in the state, we will share the dates and locations for those sessions and ask you to sign up for one of them. Each team must bring a nurse champion, a physician champion and a senior hospital administrator to the learning session. You are welcome to bring other team members, such as staff nurses, patient advocates, and performance improvement personnel, but these three roles are essential to the perinatal quality improvement team's work. Dates and locations for the learning session will be shared by the end of September. 4. If you have not provided PQCNC with complete team information, please do so by clicking here. Each time must identify a key contact, who will receive regular communication from PQCNC about the Support for Birth initiative. You may have more than one key contact if you choose. It is the responsibility of the key contact to share relevant and timely information with other team members, so be sure to choose someone who has time to read their email! Questions, concerns, suggestions? Please contact SIVB Program Coordinator Kate Berrien or SIVB Clinical Director Nancy Chescheir at any time.
