THE EDINBURGH FESTIVALS - DON'T GET OVERWHELMED!
With so much to choose from, where should you begin?!
For Fringe shows of a consistently high standard, check out Scotland's New Writing Theatre - The Traverse Theatre - for a curated program of work from world renowned companies. Another Fringe Venue with a great program is The Assembly Rooms.
The programs from the other festivals are easier to manage, so heading directly to their websites and narrowing down which artists/ companies/ genres you're interested in is possible (also on the Fringe website).
If in doubt of whether to book a show; read the reviews! The broadsheets are the most reliable: Edinburgh based The Scotsman and Glasgow based The Herald. However, there are other publications with their finger on the pulse: The Stage, The Skinny and 3 Weeks.
Things are busy, and it can be overwhelming when everything is a 'must see'. Try using Festivals Edinburgh's new Itinerary Planner, which will help you plan to see things across all of the Festivals, and will make you feel all organised and smug!
Dive in! And remember; be experimental in your ticket buying - don't stick to the tried and tested - you may just discover an event that you love!

AWARD WINNING MOVIE 'YOU'VE BEEN TRUMPED' SCREENS IN NYC:
Friday 3 - Thursday 9 August
American billionaire Donald Trump has bought up hundreds of acres on the northeast coast of Scotland. In a land swimming with golf courses, Trump is going to build two more - alongside a 450-room hotel and 1,500 luxury homes. The trouble is, the land he has purchased occupies one of Europe's most environmentally sensitive stretches of coast, described by one leading scientist as Scotland's Amazon rain forest. And the local residents don't want it destroyed. Told entirely without narration, You've Been Trumped captures the cultural chasm between the glamorous, jet-setting and media savvy Donald Trump and a deeply rooted Scottish community. For the tycoon, the golf course is just another deal, with a possible billion dollar payoff. For the residents, it represents the destruction of a globally unique landscape that has been the backdrop for their lives. Funny, inspiring and heartbreaking in turns, You've Been Trumped is both an entertaining, can't-believe-it's-true tale and an environmental parable for our celebrity driven times. A moving score features music from jónsi, the internationally acclaimed musician and frontman of Sigur Ros.
Visit the movie's dedicated website for more information and to watch the trailer. The film premieres on Friday August 3 (with a Q&A from the director) and runs through Thursday August 9 at the Angelika Film Center. Click HERE to book tickets.
