We are the
CerealCEREAL Church!
For a long time, Grace
Church has been delivering canned goods and other food donations down to the St. Luke's/St. Paul's Food Pantry in Bridgeport. They urgently need donations of all kinds of groceries, but one of the items that they seem to run out of and need a lot of is cereal.

If all of us could remember to pick up a box of cereal (or two or more!)  each time we shop, we'll be able to make a wonderful and much needed contribution for the food pantry each week.  There is a collection basket at the main entrance of the church, and also one in lower Lewis Hall.

Dear friend,
Fields

"Those planted in the house of God flourish...they are always green and filled with sap."

-Psalm 92:13

A famous passage from the Tao te Ching notes that,"It is the hard and stiff that will be broken. It is the soft and supple that will prevail." (#76). Anyone who gardens knows that dried out stalks are very different than moist new shoots, and it's the same with people. If you become dried out spiritually, or rigid in your thinking, you can break - and sometimes break hard. But if you are able to be flexible and open, and find ways to draw water from God's well, you will prevail. Psalm 96 describes those who are planted in God as being soft, supple, green, moist, and producing fruit even into old age. Where are you planted? Is there water nourishing your roots or are you going through a dry spell?   How could you send some new roots into God?

Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. Whether you're here just for this Sunday or if you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together.
Peace,

Annual Church Picnic
Our annual church picnic follows the service this Sunday. There's plenty for everyone so please take part!   Come celebrate our choir on this, their last Sunday of the season, and also to bid farewell to our seminarian, Kelly, as she heads off to her first ordained position in Portland, Maine.

Kelly's Ordination
To see pictures from Kelly's ordination, which took place last Saturday at Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford, please click HERE. (Please note that we have a new site for pictures that allows everyone access with NO login required)
Meeting of the Table Ministers

Our table ministers (acolytes) will meet following coffee hour next Sunday, June 24th to review our summer procedures and to welcome and train new servers. If you are interested in joining the ranks of our fine table ministers, you are most welcome to join in - just speak to Elsa. People age 12 and older are eligible to take part in this ministry.

Summer Blessing for Students

On Sunday, June 24th, students from preschool through high school will be given a special blessing as the summer vacation begins during our service. Bring your friends - all are welcome to receive a summer blessing! Students are encouraged to wear fun summer wear that day - shorts, Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, flip flops, etc! They are also invited to bring a special object that represents summer vacation for them.

Summer Church Location Swap

Grace Church and Christ Church are swapping locations this summer whenever their own priest is on vacation. When Elsa is away, Grace Church will worship with Christ Church in Tashua, and when Louise is away, Christ Church will worship with us here on Main Street. This will be a great way to get to know each other better. On the days Elsa is away, we're thinking of having a little gathering here before church for coffee and snacks before going over to Tashua together. Let's show great hospitality this summer both in welcoming others in to our usual location and venturing out to visit others in theirs!
Coffeehouse Beatnik

Our new monthly coffeehouse for teens begins on July 28th and will happen from 7-9pm on the fourth Saturday of the month thereafter. The coffeehouse will be a chaperoned, sober event sponsored by Grace Church and offered to the teens of Trumbull and surrounding communities for the purpose of providing a welcoming and accepting space for teens to be themselves, to enjoy music and the arts, and to grow in community.

Church members can support this event in two ways:

1. Volunteering as a chaperone or

2. Baking treats or donating individually wrapped snacks or drinks to sell at the coffeehouse each month.

If you'd like to volunteer or if you have questions, talk to Dave M, Avery or Jon.

Piano Lessons
Would you like to study the piano? Do you know someone else who would? Our minister of music, Dave McWilliams, is hoping to gather some students to study with him on Sunday afternoons right here at the church. Dave is experienced in teaching piano students of all ages. Speak with, or email, him if you're interested in knowing more.
