We are the CEREAL Church! | For a long time, Grace
Church has been delivering canned goods and other food donations down to the St. Luke's/St. Paul's Food Pantry in Bridgeport. They urgently need donations of all kinds of groceries, but one of the items that they seem to run out of and need a lot of is cereal.
If all of us could remember to pick up a box of cereal (or two or more!) each time we shop, we'll be able to make a wonderful and much needed contribution for the food pantry each week. There is a collection basket at the main entrance of the church, and also one in lower Lewis Hall.

Dear friend,
"And I said, 'Here am I; send me.'"
-Isaiah 6:8
Remember that scene from the movie "Ferris Beuhler's Day Off," in which the teacher asks the class a question and then says, "Anybody? Anybody? Anybody?" No one raises their hand. We all know how it feels to be reluctant to volunteer. What if I say the wrong thing? What if I mess up and make a fool of myself? What if I fail? (or maybe even, what if I succeed?) When God appeared to Isaiah in an awe-inspiring vision, Isaiah felt ill-equipped and unworthy to be called on. But God assured him that he was worthy. So when God asked for a volunteer, Isaiah stood up and said "Here am I; send me!" Isaiah's vision showed him that God does not call the equipped, but rather equips the called, and he was assured that he would be given the support he needed to fulfil his mission. Even so, it still took a lot of willingness and courage on Isaiah's part to stand up and say yes.
It's been said that when we supply the willingness, God supplies the power. Have you ever made yourself willing and found that you were, indeed, supplied with the power you needed? Is there something calling you now - an important action or cause - that you have not yet been willing to say yes to? How could willingness change your life for the better? How might it stretch you in ways that are uncomfortable? What are the costs and benefits of saying yes to God?
Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. Whether you're here just for this Sunday or if you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together.

The GLOW Festival
The GLOW Festival will take place THIS Saturday, June 2. It will be a day of good food, music, exhibits, talks, classes - even hot air balloon rides! This will be the day that the whole town of Trumbull will see that Grace Church is serious about God's mission of healing and wholeness. We intend to make Grace Church known as a community wide resource for healing and wholeness in body, mind and spirit in the Trumbull area.
Calling all bakers...!
Everyone is invited to find a recipe for a healthy treat - low fat, whole grain, special diet cookies, bars or cupcakes - and make a batch for the GLOW Festival Bake Sale. Please have items individually wrapped with copies of your recipe available for those who'd like to see what is in them - or to take the recipe home to make the treat themselves. We can make room in the church's chest freezer if you'd like to start making baked goods in advance!
Get Your GLOW On
The GLOW at Grace T-Shirts are still available in sizes S, XL, & XXL. Only $5 each! Make sure you have one to wear at the GLOW Festival, or whenever you want to get the GLOW going around town.
What can I do...?
Possible jobs for you on Festival Day: Turkey burger griller? Carrot stick cutter? Parking attendant? Person to shuttle people back and forth across the street from the Lutheran Church parking lot in your van? Handing out flyers? Schedule keepers for speakers and presenters?

Many, many thanks...
Thanks everyone for a great Memorial Day hospitality event! We gave away over 120 hot dogs and had a successful bake sale (raised $125.00). We also handed out almost 300 GLOW Festival flyers to parade goers. We had music playing and the church was so lively, there must be no doubt in anyone's mind that Grace Church is alive and kicking! To see pictures of the event, click HERE. Thank you to everyone that baked, set up, cleaned up, grilled, or helped in any way. It was a good warm up for Saturday - let's hope the weather is just as good or better! |

Vestry News
It's an Ordination!
Save the date: Kelly will be ordained to the diaconate on Saturday, June 9th at at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral in Hartford, and we are all cordially invited to attend and celebrate this joyous event.
Annual Church Picnic
Our annual church picnic will be on Sunday, June 17th, following the service. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, along with beverages. You bring your favorite picnic side dishes and desserts to share. June 17th will be the last day for the choir before their summer break, and it will also be the day we say good bye to Kelly.
Summer Church Location Swap
Grace Church and Christ Church are swapping locations this summer whenever their own priest is on vacation. When Elsa is away, Grace Church will worship with Christ Church in Tashua, and when Louise is away, Christ Church will worship with us here on Main Street. This will be a great way to get to know each other better. On the days Elsa is away, we're thinking of having a little gathering here before church for coffee and snacks before going over to Tashua together. Let's show great hospitality this summer both in welcoming others in to our usual location and venturing out to visit others in theirs!
Godly Play We hope you've seen the lovely new setting for our Godly Play room in the south transept of the church. Godly Play sessions will begin this fall for children between age 5 and 5th grade. Godly Play is tentatively scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, immediately following the service. Parent support is an integral part of the Godly Play program, so parents wishing to have their children participate are invited to a parent orientation session to learn about the program before enrolling their children. Parents are asked to speak with Elsa and an orientation session will be planned at a mutually agreeable time at the end of the summer.

Coming July 28th...for Trumbull area teens.
Coffeehouse - Open Mic
Dave , our Minister of Music, along with Avery and Jon and others, are hoping to put together a monthly coffeehouse in the Parish Hall for Trumbull teens. The evening will include musicians performing and an open mike, along with games, snacks and conversation. The first one is scheduled for July 28th. We envision the coffeehouse as a fun, community building and sober event for Trumbull High students. If you're interested in helping out in any way, please speak with Dave.
