Dear friend,
"Open the eyes of our faith."
-today's collect
They say we live in a very visual culture. People have become used to making sense of things primarily through images. But how many of us really notice everything around us? Have you ever played that game - when you have 1 minute to look at a picture and then you have to put it away and have to answer questions to see how many details you remember seeing? No matter how visual we are, there are always things we just don't see. With all the things there are to look at, how do we know which things are most important to notice? Today's collect asks God to open the eyes of our faith - to open us to what God wants us to see. Though some things are flashy and easily catch your interest, might there be something you're missing? What will your eyes see today? What images will be put before you and what will you notice first? How can you take the time you need to allow what you see to sink in and really inform you? Really guide you? Can you ask God to open the eyes of your faith to see what it is that God wants to show you today?
Here at Grace Church we are dancing with life's big questions. Whether you're here just for this Sunday or if you're searching for a community of faith to belong to, we invite you to come to explore, come to connect and come to believe among us here at Grace Church. We'd enjoy both your company and your participation as we follow in the way of Jesus and learn and grow in discipleship together.

Peace, The Rev. Elsa Worth Grace Episcopal Church |
New Minister of Music, David McWilliams
We are very pleased to announce that Dave's first service at Grace is this Sunday!
Dave, originally from Seymour, CT, was appointed Minister of Music at Grace Episcopal Church in March, 2012. Prior to that time he served for almost six years as a church choir director and organist in Plainville, CT.
David graduated magna cum laude from The Hartt School in 2009. While at Hartt, he studied the piano with Dr. Paul Rutman and classical voice with Mr. Kenneth Shelley. Currently, David studies organ with Dr. Jason Roberts and also keeps busy pursuing a master's degree in music education with a concentration in vocal pedagogy at the Hartt School. In addition to maintaining an active private piano and voice studio, David is the choral director at Silas Deane Middle School in Wethersfield, CT where he directs 7th and 8th grade chorus in addition to a select co-ed choral ensemble, Chorale.
David serves as an accompanist for many school districts in the Greater Hartford and New Haven areas. He has toured with many distinguished choirs both nationally and abroad. Since the spring of 2008, David has served as accompanist and co-director of the Connecticut Childrens' Chorus performing at various music conferences such as the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME, formerly MENC), and the Connecticut Music Educators Association, at the state and national level.
David currently resides in beautiful West Hartford, CT with his two cats, Bella and Abbey. He loves visiting family, running, reading and throwing his own pottery(He's getting better!!). David is thrilled to be serving as Minister of Music at Grace Episcopal Church where he strives to utilize his talents to help create a deeply profound worship experience for all in attendance.

The GLOW Festival is Coming
Mark your calendars now for the biggest event Grace Church has seen in many years. And begin thinking now about how you could help it come to life! The GLOW Festival will take place here on Saturday June 2. It will be a day of good food, music, exhibits, talks, classes - even hot air balloon rides! This will be the day that the whole town of Trumbull will see that Grace Church is serious about God's mission of healing and wholeness. We intend to make Grace Church known as a community wide resource for healing and wholeness in body, mind and spirit in the Trumbull area.
Local holistic health practitioners will exhibit or give demonstrations or talks. Our new community partner, Griffin Hospital, will provide some wonderful speakers and services. We are arranging the participation of healthy food vendors, healthy living advocates, environmental organizations and musicians. We might even have a plant/shrub sale and a farmer's market! The wellness team is hard at work on programs, communications, food and administration for this wonderfully fun event.

Inviting All Runners & Walkers
 May 19, 2012
For the past two years Grace Church has taken part in the Bishop's 5K for Kids in West Hartford. The first year, we had a team of three runners. Last year we had a team of 5 runners/walkers. This year, I hope we have even more! So far, we have two participants: Elsa (of course!) and Michele Bourque. If you want to sponsor Elsa, Michele OR BOTH, Anne Martin, head team cheerleader, will be accepting contributions during coffee hour. Or, if you choose, you may contribute online HERE. And what's more, the three Episcopal Churches of Trumbull are teaming up this year into one mega-team - the Spirit of Trumbull - in an effort to make an even bigger difference in the lives of at-risk kids in CT. The money we raise together will go to innovative preschool, after school, educational, recreational and camping programs. It'll be great to join together in outreach in this fun way and hopefully the Spirit of Trumbull can make a significant donation to the fund this year. For more information, click HERE

This Week's Announcements |
Wednesday, April 25th, 7:00 PM
The vestries of Grace Church, Christ Church Tashua and Trinity Church Nichols will meet together this Wednesday evening with the Rev. Audrey Scanlon, the Canon of Mission Collaboration in the Diocese of CT. This meeting is simply meant to help us get to know each other better. All three churches feel that the time is right to explore ways we can move away from functioning as three separate and competitive 'clubs' and to work more collaboratively together in ministry. This meeting marks the beginning of our communal discernment, and we're grateful for Audrey's support and guidance in what will be a very exciting process.
