COME CHEER US ON!!

Varsity Basketball
The PVI Lady Panthers closed of a great WCAC regular season this week.  The lady panthers had two battles this week with St Johns and Ryken.  Both games came right down to the end but the lady panthers came up on the short end after putting forth tremendous effort.  They finish the WCAC tied with the 2009-10 team for the most wins in PVI Girls Basketball History with 11 WCAC wins.  With those 11 wins, The lady panthers finished up 4th in the nations best girls basketball conference.  The girls will face #5 seed Ryken at 12:00 pm Saturday at Gonzaga High School in DC in the quarter-finals of the WCAC Tournament.  On Monday the Lady Panthers dominated Montrose Christian with a 83 - 32 win to close out the regular season.  All PVI Lady Panthers scored in the game.

Junior Guard Marlena Tremba and Sophomore Forward Ariana Freeman were named to the first team all WCAC Team.  The team is made up of the coaches votes for the top 10 players in the WCAC for the first team.  It is the first time in PVI Girls Basketball History that two players from PVI have made the first team.  Sophomore Forward Lindsey Oblitey was also named to the WCAC Honorable Mention Team.  What an outstanding accomplishment for these lady panthers!!!

JV Girls Win Regular Season WCAC Title
The JV Lady Panthers capped off an awesome regular season with wins over Ryken and St Johns finishing the regular season at 17-5.  On Friday, St Johns came in tied with the lady panthers for the top spot in the WCAC JV League.  The Lady Panthers put on their best team performance of the year in front of an outstanding crowd dominating The Lady Cadets by 21 points.  It caps off one of the best JV seasons at PVI in recent history.  The team entered the JV tournament as the #1 seed.  On Tuesday night in the semi finals, the Lady Panthers were able to defeat O'Connell for a 3rd time this season pulling away for an 18 point victory.  In the finals on Wednesday, the team ran into a hot shooting St Johns team and fell a little short of winning the tournament title.  Overall an outstanding season for the JV Lady Panthers as they finished winning the WCAC regular season title and taking 2nd place in the tournament!
FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

FRESHMEN GIRLS COMPLETE AMAZING SEASON - The freshmen girls basketball team wrapped up an exceptional season Monday night with a hard-fought 42-33 away win against Seton (Manassas) JV team. This victory was the 16th win of the season for the girls with only four losses, two each to conference rivals O'Connell and Good Counsel. The second loss to Good Counsel was a heart breaking 1 pointer that in the words of Coach Tony Conques "was ours to win at the end, but we missed so many opportunities throughout the game that last second heroics shouldn't have been needed". This team's record is the second best of Coach Conques' 11 year career as the freshmen coach. "This was a truly great group of kids - talent and attitude - no complaints at all. They worked hard every day and the results are there!"

The team was led by strong guard play from Kelly Taplin, Emma Brehany, Catey Susco, Marissa Probst, and Isabelle Murakami and inside strength from Nikki Toole, Jordan Kijewski, Teresa Neves, Ali Muskett, Bae Lee Harman, and Capri Cunniff. The strength of the team was in its' depth. "It is great when you get contributions from everyone on the team each game". Assisting Coach Conques with this year's team was Leanne Conques (her 5th season) and Julie Jones. "Having Leanne to work with makes this that much more special and she is terrific with the kids on all three teams."

In summary - 3 wins over Ireton; 2 wins each over Flint Hill, Georgetown Visitation, Stone Ridge, Forest Park, and John Paul the Great JV; and single wins over Westfield, Woodbridge, and Seton (Manassas). Now that is good work!!
