Varsity Basketball
Following a dramatic last second 48-46 loss at WCAC power Holy Cross (a game where Junior Marlena Tremba sank 7 three point shots) on Tuesday, the coaching staff challenged the team to regain their winning ways against archrival O'Connell on Friday afternoon in the PAC. A large and as usual noisy crowd witnessed an extremely great team effort in a dominating victory. The Panthers were led by Junior guard Annie Kane's career high 22 points (including two three pointers and 8 of 10 shots from the field) and Sophomore Arianna Freeman who pulled down 14 rebounds to compliment her 19 points. On Tuesday, The Lady Panthers came up with a 58-57 win over Arch-Bishop Carroll. This win brings the Panthers to a 18-6 record (11-4 in the WCAC) with two weeks remaining in the regular season. They are currently tied for third place in the WCAC with three conference games remaining. They face tough home game Friday vs WCAC leading # 1 n the area and 10th in the country Good Counsel visiting on Friday night.

JV BASKETBALL
The JV team won 2 more games last week defeating Holy Cross and O'Connell. On Tuesday, the team struggled to get things going on offense, but came up with some shots when needed to pull out a close game at Holy Cross. Megan Plombon led the scoring with 17 points. Kayla Meador added 12.
On Sunday, PVI hosted their rivals from O'Connell. The team dominated right from the opening tip to come away with a big win. Unlike their previous game, scoring was coming from all over. Once again Megan Plombon and Kayla Meador led the way with 15 points each. Lauren Alger scored 10 while KK Wiggins scored 9 and added 9 rebounds.
With the wins, the JV team is back in first place in the standings. Two big games coming up this week vs Carroll on Tuesday and Good Counsel on Friday. |
FRESHMAN BASKETBALL
Freshmen girls added a third win of the season over Ireton on Tuesday night, winning 36-24 but fell for a second time this season to an exceptionally good (and tall) O'Connell 47-27 on Sunday. As a consolation, the Frosh improved their performance against O'Connell appreciably, pulling within 13 points late in the game. The girls finish their season with four games in the next six days and hope to improve upon their current 13-3 overall record. Next game is Tuesday at home against Stone Ridge at 4pm. |
