Denver, CO - March 28, 2012 - Denver area schools have the once in a lifetime opportunity to have an elite athlete mentor their classroom for the 2012-2013 school year thanks to
Crescent Point Energy. Crescent Point Energy is committed to sponsoring a Denver area schoolroom registered with
Classroom Champions, a non-profit organization founded by 2010 Olympic gold medalist Steve Mesler that connects world class athletes with high need classrooms around the nation. Teachers are encouraged to apply now through April 13 to be considered for the program by visiting

While Mesler was en route to making history by winning the first four-man bobsled gold medal in 62-years for the U.S. team in 2010, he engaged several classrooms throughout the country in his personal journey. The success of the pilot program evolved into Classroom Champions, which targets elementary and middle schools where at least 50% of the student population is eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
"The mission of Classroom Champions is to inspire, motivate and educate students in high need schools," Mesler said. "We want students to recognize their potential, set goals and dream big."
Mesler has already recruited winter athletes on their journey towards Sochi 2014 to participate in next year's program. Crescent Point Energy, an oil and gas production company with assets in United States and western Canada, has joined the cause to inspire students across the world through a relationship with an athlete mentor. Crescent Point Energy believes in the power of a dream through friendship and fair play, and is dedicated to funding the necessary technology for students to follow the voyage of their athlete mentor.
Students will interact with their athlete via HD teleconferencing and video camera equipment donated by Cisco. Through blogs and live video chats, the class will learn about goal setting and gain digital literacy as they engage with their mentor throughout the year.
