March 2012
Greetings!

Our theme for February was respect. Thanks to our Paralympians, Jerome Singleton and Mary Alison Milford, Classroom Champions teachers were able to give new meaning and depth to the concept of treating people with respect, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Because teachers share lesson plans, videos and photos in our private social network, everyone was able to take advantage of the lesson from teacher, Ann Yenne. Read more
below about the unique experience Ann was able to bring to her students.

Experiencing a Wheelchair
Sherrice Fox from the National Wheelchair Basketball Association spoke to West Elementary students about wheelchair basketball. Ms. Yenne's class asked questions about paraplegics and got to feel what it's like to sit in a wheelchair, just like their hero Athlete Ambassador, Mary Alison Milford

No Limits
Even though he is missing a leg, Jerome Singleton, Jr. never stopped dreaming big.  Not only is he an accomplished athlete, but Jerome also holds several degrees.  In this video, Jerome tells students how nothing less was expected of him growing up just because of his disability.
