Greetings!
It's fall camping time and my favorite season of the year. I absolutely love the smell of fallen leaves, apple cider, woodburning, and the visuals aren't too bad either. Some of my fondest RV memories are trips we took in the fall and one of the first was in 1999. We piled the kids into our first RV a 1989 23' Winnebago Chieftain and headed for Lake Raystown Campground in mid October. We just about had the whole place to ourselves and were parked just feet away from the water. In the morning we watched the eagle fishing in the lake and the weather could not be better. I thought to myself why doesn't everyone love RV'ing. The campground had a listing of area attractions and the East Broad Top Railroad sounded like the perfect way to spend the day. So we jumped in the RV and road up to the town of Rockhill, Pa where we found the police ready to close the road in the center of town. On the other side of the railroad tracks was the perfect parking place and as we walked over towards the railroad we noticed all of the trains pulling up to the crossing. Someone on a loud speaker gave a salute to all of the past employees of the railroad and at noon each train sounded it's whistle with a blast from all of them at the end. Afterwards we jumped on one of the trains for a short ride in perfect autumn weather. The day could not have been better and I am pretty sure that was the beginning of my obsession with RV'ing and traveling the country finding all of the amazing things it has to offer.
